I don't see many Schatt and Morgan's on here.

I like this one. It's the Shiner Pt -can anyone explain the name?

The term "shiner" is short for Moonshiner. A moonshiner would be an individual who makes whiskey without paying the Federal Whiskey Tax. Moonshiners have been a part of the American Culture in general and Appalachian Culture in particular since the very beginning of the Republic. Read about "The Whiskey Rebellion".

Here's a Keystone from early on in the series, 1991. Sabre blade Slimline Trapper with half-stops. Thanks, Will

Here's one of my favorite S&M's. Harness Jack in Smooth Harvest Bone. 2009 production.

I agree with all of this and would add that the Pint and Quart names pay homage to jars - as in a pint of moonshine or a quart jar of moonshine. For what it's worth, I have a Shiner Pint also and like it a lot.

Thanks Bob and thanks Stephen.
I thought it was something to with moonshining -it was the Pt that I wasn't sure of. Originally when I got it I thought Shiner Pt might have stood for Shiner Point (a place name if it even exists).Like "Mt" Keira .
I'll do a bit of reading on the subject. heh heh can't be too difficult.
I watched some of that show about moonshiners-I can't get my head around the bit where they operate in top secrecy,at night, out in the bush, to avoid the cops and yet seem to think it's perfectly OK to get their faces and vehicles on the TV. If the local cops don't know them ....

My one and only S&M with perfect fit and finish as we see in all Charlie SFO knives. I love the jigging on this knife and the steel is my favourite, 1095.

Best regards

Robin

Here's another Old Schatt , a Swayback in Wormgroove Bone

And here's a Big Schatt, also in Wormgroove Bone - The English Jack with his mates

I was a huge fan of the Heritage classics made several years ago. They are some of the prettiest knives I've seen, at least to me. If a company could get Case's production numbers, GEC's quality and Queens looks, they would make a mint! S&M is a great imprint, with some really nice patterns coming out. Unfortunately, a few that I fondled had poor fit and finish recently. Since the Daniels took over, I've seen some nicer products coming out, and didnt' find any issues with the S&M pieces I coon eyed earlier this month at a knife shop downy ocean. ATS34 was their primary steel, but as said before they have used 420HC and 1095. I just tossed out my 2014 Queen catalog, and did not recall seeing D2, I think that is good to have on some of them. Supposedly higher fit and finish. I know that Tuna Valley, while made by Queen, is actually a part of the Daniels family company and uses ATS34 and 154CM.

I am hoping that the Heritage series is restarted, but I think that's a pipe dream. Some Schatt and Morgans are a little gaudy for me, but as a whole I like them. Not as precise as far as fit and finish goes as GEC, but they are getting better. The moonshine knives look neat, the ones I handled had F and F issues. However, the ones I got to check out from Ryans wife were great.

Except for springs and thick grinds, but not that bad, I was lucky to get a premium stockman, two two blade spear jacks and one single spear jack.

Wow, thats a beaut!! That design is one of my favorite.
Theres a few around. I know for at least a few years they had some problems in the fit and finish/function department. I know they used to use 420hc on some or most, but know they seem to use 1095, D2 and nicer stainless steels like ATS34. I have an older teardrop that I got from a member here and I really like it. The F&F is outstanding, the snap in all positions is amazing and the blade takes a great edge. I believe mine is 420hc. This is the only one at the moment that I have but plan on picking up more in the future. I'm really liking the Heritage series that I've been seeing around.
