yeah yeah laugh it up it probably sounds like a joke coming from me but it isnt. anyway i was on a nature walk with my nephew and the clip on my knife had snagged on something last week so it's sort of hanging open and i leaned over and my knife a benchmade 275 fell into the water. i picked it up and we got home about an hour later and i opened it up and left it out to dry. is there anything else i should do? i dont think any sand got in there but theres no way to be sure and i dont know if water got inside anything and is still sitting there.

also i have to say benchmade was so cool about the clip a new one is on the way. i called them after it happened and i just figured id buy a new one but even though i damaged the clip myself by snagging it on something they said its under warranty and are sending a new one for free they didn't even ask me for any info except my address so i wanted to post good feedback for them.

I'd put a light coat of oil on it just to be safe. Apply it, then wipe it down with a rag. Good as new!

As for the internals, I think you'll be fine. It's really only G10 and the Axis lock in there.

Don't worry, I'm an expert with a soaking wet Adamas, I played with mine in the snow all the time!

If it were me, I would rinse it out real good, take it apart and clean and oil everything, and then put it back together good as new.

But if you are worried about sand being in there, definitely rinse it out.

I swim with non stainless steel knives. I never take them apart or oil them. You'll be fine. Shake it out, wipe off what you can, blow out the pivot area with your mouth and put it back in your pocket.

I have used my 1095 knives (slip joints mostly) in and around water often. Just wipe the excess off and let it dry.

Yeah use compressed air or WD-40 and you'll be good. Plus almost everything on the Adamas is coated anyway.

Really.....:/. You dropped your knife in water.... And your concerned about it. Sigh...

I would spray it with rapid-drying brake cleaner that leaves no residue. Then a drop or two of oil on the pivot.

I had my folder in the stream last weekend.I never dropped it, but I did clean a whole bunch of trout with the knife in the stream.I had to keep putting my knife in the stream to clean the knife up.Yep everything clean and shaken off then wiped down the back at camp.My knees hurt like hell every morning and night from squatting down for so long to clean them trout.I would be more worried about dropping the knife and chipping the blade. That mistake could take up some time on the stone.Your knife should be fine.Wash it up at home and let it dry.Keep it sharp and lightly lube the pivot.

I believe that the trick our ancient ancestors used to do when drops of water got near their steel was to immediately put it in a bag of rice overnight. Also, buy the extra warranty....

Seriously people it's water. And a knife. Sometimes knife nuts act like their steel is mentos and anything damp or acidic is diet coke.

You could leave the damn knife in the creek for a month and it would be usable when you retrieve it. Granted you could actually find it.

All you need to do is wipe it down and blow out the pivot. The 275 is made for MUCH tougher environments than a stream, so it will be fine.

There is something odd about a salmon killer giving helpful advice to a trout.

If it came in contact with water it's ruined! Send it to me I'll dispose of it properly! ;) In all seriousness, it's fine dry it good. Then, put a little oil on it and call it good. Best of luck!
