Well the title says it all, I dropped my small Sebbie on ceramic tile. The knife is fine. However, it landed directly on the edge. I spent the last hour on the Sharpmaker trying to sharpen out the giant dead spot on the belly.

It is slow going since I don't have diamond stones and I don't carry the knife that much ( I prefer the large ) so I've never gave it more than a lick or two on the white/fine stones.

The belly needs a little more work and the back of the blade is sharper than ever. Has anybody ever had trouble sharpening from the belly to the tip? I will work on it more tomarrow and that should do it.

Yes, my experience is that the belly to the tip is the hardest part of a blade to sharpen. I'm not really sure why.

You have to curve the knife upwards just right, or you won't be hitting the edge perfectly when sharpening the belly. It's easy for the flat end of the blade near the handle because you just have to hold the knife straight up and down.

So are you saying that I should curve the knife in a sweeping motion while sharpening while still holding it straight up and down against the rod of the Sharpmaker?

I know I explained it F*@%#ed up, it is the best explaination of what I think your telling me.

Careful. Go slow. You can always send it to CRK! Hate to admit it but I lost a blade to enthusiasm! Expensive screw up.

I reprofiled the edge in the Edgepro and finished it off at 40 degrees on the Sharpmaker and it's better than new. I don't really like the edges that CRK puts on. I know they are convex but, I find them a little thick.

CRK recommends sharpening at 40 degrees on the Sharpmaker but, using the sharpie trick I wasn't anywhere near the edge at 40 degrees and without diamonds I would be there forever.

I have also found this to be true - it took me two hours on the gray stones before I was hitting the edge of my Sebenza.

This issue has been talked about before, send it to CRK, tell them you want it 20 per side.

Learn to sharpen without gadgets like Sharpmaker. For major work start out with a diamond stone, then finish with a ceramic stone. The whole job should not take more than maybe 20 minutes.

yes, but there's no excuse for a seb not being 20 degrees when they say it is supposed to be.
