I expect that got him what he wanted.

I'm sure all the bmx guy wanted was the advertising. It was a planned move that cost him a few hours time but well conceived even with the repetition used of the few pictures, not answering questions and making what knowlegable makers would call some rediculous statements.
We may not know how, how well, or from what he makes his knives but he sure did get them advertised in a hurry and isn't that what we all want to get out there? Now the buyers can decide if they want them or not. Frank

You said it Frank. And I'll add that of all the customers he has gained I would like to know how many repeat customers he makes.

If nothing else, a lot of potential buyers now know that the knives in question are nothing but assembled kit knives.

Hopefully the thread has kept a few people from being deceived.

I cannot imagine anyone who read that thread coming away with enough respect for the man to buy a cardboard box from him, let alone whatever he sells as a knife.

We have sales here by makers who assemble knives with fine blades made by bladesmiths or companies they name, and handles and sheaths on which they do the equally excellent work. I got one myself recently.

It's all in the integrity and craftsmanship and honesty. Mocking one's customer base doesn't qualify.

You know I followed along silently from the begining of this thread, and decided to not add anything because I just couldn't belive that he claims a quality blade came from a sawzall blade. I work in construction and demo quite a bit going through blades like they were made of cardboard.

Bottom line is this person made some outlandish claims and called out on them, then sidestepped any direct questions. I will not pay for a knife from him, when buy his own logic I can put one together cheaper than he can sell one to me for. Good luck (he'll need it) to him in his business and god help him if he ever decides to try for his JS from his couch.

The true shame of this program he started is that there are so many makers here that are of the best there is and they would willingly offer help in any part of the knife making area. Frank

Kind of a fun read, though, in a strange, surreal sort of way.:D

Key doozies include:

* His knives are better than others due to his vast "experience" as an operator/adventurer,
---yet he uses off-the-shelf blades/patterns from mail order.

* Knifemaking is sooooooo simple (because he's soooo gifted)
---and thanks to Knife Kits, Jantz, TKS, etc.

* Engineering/designing a knife=choosing between green micarta or black G-10 for the scales.

Awesome fun! Is anyone sure this wasn't some kind of joke?

The next logical step in his progression would be to sell someone elses finished knives.

It is funny that he thinks it is clever to skip a bunch of steps in "knifemaking" and then come in here and tell us we are making it too hard!

By his logic the simplest way to make a knife would be to buy one completely assembled, why is he wasting his time?

He reminds me of this tool at the flea market, every year since I've lived here he has been "going out of the knife business." I wonder why he keeps buying new stock, maybe the knife shopping networks 200 knives for 50 bucks are too much of a temptation! :D

oops I shouldn't be giving "anyone" any ideas

I'm not sure if I should be sorry I helped drag that thread on so long or not.

Feels like I should be, but I'm not.

I was bored, it was fun, and it might save someone who Googles him before purchasing from buying into the snake oil spiel.

I do apologize to you fine folks for it though, hope y'all will forgive me.

Some of us went well beyond the call to try and reason with him. I felt he had an opportunity to clean his act up and learn a few things.... man do I feel like schmuck for not seeing it was a useless gesture. I will probably fall for it again, though.

Rick

I'm with Brian and Rick, I couldn't help myself from giving the responses I gave and continuing the thread, even though I knew damn well from the start that this idiot wouldn't listen to a single word that anyone said. He had a screwed up mission from the very start and there was no derailing him. I should have known better, but you know how it is when you can't look away from the train wreck:o

Never say never, give him 20 or so years and than talk to him again.....:D

If you honestly wanting to help people it will happen to you again ! Most are very grateful but some believe, and I know it can seem that way, you are walking all over them. People who know me in the forums are not surprised at my frankness and honesty, but some immediatly figure I'm after them for coming into the forum. so go figure. A common bond helps to move us in one direction but sometimes the glue doesn't set right because it's bad to begin with. Frank

That entire thread just pissed me off. This place is full of people who will bend over to help you, and that guy was just too stupid to open up his eyes and realize it. I just don't get what he was trying to accomplish, other than burning bridges.

Life's too short to be mad at everyone that's wrong on the internet!:);)

Your responses, and those of a couple of the others, made it possible for me to resist the troll's siren song and post. Thank You.

He was pretty much owned a few times by you all, though I'm sure he would dispute that ...

I'd love to know his actual bio. I have a hard time believing a "Marine officer" and Special Ops team leader would behave in this fashion. Most of those guys I've been honored to know are respectful and unassuming even when they're the best qualified in the room. They don't often rush to dishonor themselves over stupid stuff .... but who knows?
