I hate to say this, but I REALLY like the look of the Benchmade Vex. Nice, simple, slim, etc. with G10 and a hole (yes, I know its a Spydie Hole). Not too heavy, and not too light.

I've been looking for a Spyderco in that size range, but so many of them are much harder to pocket (e.g., Manix/Mini-Manix, Para, D'Allara, etc.). The Vex reminds of a mix of some of the old Spyderco collaborations and some of the discontinued Benchmades.

In the end, of course, I can't do it. Clearly stole the Spydie hole, and it is made in China.

I guess I just have to wait for the Stretch 2 (yes, I know the Vex isn't even close to being in its league), but not sure what else in the lineup would compare in form and not quality (Maybe a Caly 3 in G10?). Or maybe if we are lucky, a Citadel will come along in non-auto form.

its alright, you have strayed from the fold but your back now and thats what counts

as penance you have o say Five Our Father Sals, and Four Hail Gails and buy at least two products this month :D

I had a Vex. As far as I was aware, BM was allowed to use the hole but I am not sure about that anymore. Anyway, it is a pretty decent knife for the money and a good design. One of the better BM design ever as far as I have seen.

The steel is a bit brittle. I chipped my blade twice and I didn't really abuse it. The blade is a little hard to open because the scales hide the hole a bit. It is also a tad heavy.

Other than those minor problems, it is a good knife and worth the money. I have a chance to compare a Byrd Cara Cara G-10 to it when I bought one for my brother. The G-10 Cara is actually a better knife even though it is a different design. It is also less than the Vex. Vex is about $40 and the Cara is about $25-30 street. Pretty great knife for the money.

There is only one BM knife that is on my radar right now, the Dejavoo. It also has the Spyderco hole so I am not sure what to think.

There are about half a dozen Spydercos I need to buy including the Assist, Waved Rescue, Stretch II, CF Calypso and a few others.

I've googled it, but cannot seem to find a link to the Stretch 2- would anyone care to link me?

As far as the original topic goes- there's no denying that the Vex is a sharp looking knife- it just needs a Spyder logo and some ZDP and it would be in my pocket.

Wow- gorgeous knife (and people say that spydies are ugly). Come Summer, I'm going to be significantly poorer.

Thanks for the link!

Thanks for keeping me from straying!

I can't wait for the Stretch 2. I've got the original Stretch, but I decided after buying it I really don't like metal handles (too heavy) and the rubber inserts can peel off. The stretch 2 should keep the functionality of the stretch, but it should weight less and be more durable.

I wish though Spyderco offered more G10 models. Personally its my favorite handle material.

How about a G10 Endura? Or resurrect some of the other G10 knives they used to offer. Offering more US-made knives would be a plus. (I'd rather see Golden, Colorado on my blades than Japan or definitely China!)

Vex? IMHO awfully overpriced.

It is of the same steel as Byrds are, it is made in China (not it is necessarily bad thing, however it is not anything that would advocate as high or higher price as pieces made in USA, Europe or Japan) and it costs about the same as Endura or Delica

I can't see anyone buying BM Vex when there are Byrds for half the price

Agreed that the Vex may not be well made. But it IS good lucking. That is all I was saying. I just wish there was a Spyderco with a similar look (but by virtue of being a Spydeco would be of better quality, of course).

Yeah, I like the way it looks too. And I guess every knife we buy can't be the best knife ever made. :)

No doubt, it is patterned after on of the most sought after discontinued Spyderco models. The Terzoula (not the Starmate).

The Benchmade Vex makes one think of the Starmate because of the hole in the blade, but it wasn't patterned after it. To me the Vex looks more like it was inspired by previous Benchmade models (Pinnacle, CQC-7, AFCK).

wow the stretch 2 looks so nice. Definatly going to want that one for my collection--as well as the new lum. I like the caly 3 but my first came with blade play so i dont feel like risking it (im just bitter=P)

Hi Illumination,

While I cannot say that buying a knife is like getting married, I will say that Spyderco appreciates your loyalty and support.

sal

Nice to know that you don't equate buying a knife with marriage. So it's ok if I occasionally stray. :D

But I'll always come back.

Awesome products, thanks.
