After several years and alot of money I believe I have found the ideal daily carry folder.

The Spyderco Endura!

1. The Endura takes a great edge and is fairly easy to sharpen.

2. If you are using it for anything that will make the knife fail you should be using a fixed blade.

3. It is economical. It can be easily replaced if I scratch it, chip it, hurt it, or lose it.

In short, the Endura does everything I ask it to. As evryone knows, I am a big fan of folders that have a locking system that locks up like Fort Knox and steels that hold an edge like its going out of style. i am not saying that the Endura is better than these other folders, its not. But as an everyday carry knife, it is just about perfect. I still carry my better knives, but the Endura has a permanent home with me.

You are right, I have tried a TON of folders, including the mighty Sebenza. I always return to my trusty 5 year old, well used Endura for a daily carry folder. Its hard to beat.

shootist16 , amen brother!!!!!
"I KNOW A CERTAIN MODERATOR THAT NEEDS TO READ THE PART ABOUT THE LOCK BACK YOU MENTIONED ABOVE . YOU'RE RIGHT , IF YOU CAUSE
THE LOCK TO FALL ON A FOLDER,ESPECIALLY A
SPYDERCO YOU ARE MISTREATING IT AND SHOULD NOT BE USEING IT FOR THAT JOB!"

A KNIFE IS NOT:
#1 A PRY BAR!
#2 A HAMMER!
#3 A CHISEL!
#4 A DRILL!
#5 A AXE!
#6 A SHOVEL!
#7 "A PIECE OF FIRE WOOD"
#8 A SCREWDRIVER!

A KNIFE IS A CUTTING TOOL! THATS THE ONLY THING A KNIFE SHOULD BE USED FOR!!

Shootist16:
I sharpened one the other day for a co-worker and was impressed with how it took an edge, had very little blade play which is good for a 4yr old hard use knife.
I have never owned a spyderco as I have always went by way of Benchmade for my everyday users but will have to seriously consider it when my CQC7 is ready for retirement.

If you break a folder doing something, you could conclude that you should not have used *that particular folder* for that job. However you cannot logically extend that argument and say you cannot use any folder for that job.

There are lots of folders that are made for heavy duty use. Mission's MPF being probably the current most durable one. It could be knocked out of this position by either Strider's upcoming blade, and quite possibly a folder with fixed blade strength, the one Busse Combat has in the works.

A KNIFE IS A CUTTING TOOL! THATS THE ONLY THING A KNIFE SHOULD BE USED FOR!!

Even the weakest blades I have (1/8" stock, distil tapers), can do light prying like splitting wood. I would not be bothered about digging with them either and have done it with most of them. The heavier blades I have like the khukuris from HI, can take whatever I want to do with them and that includes full force prying, hammering etc. .

Back to the Endura, it is a very nice knife. Probably the one I recommend most often to friends.

That is a great knife but I would suggest going for the one with the metal clip.......
Also the Delica is a good knife.........

Shootist16,

I thought you were going to tell us that you found your Wegner under the seat in your car. I was going to say "Man, you were lucky!" Actually, I was going to say "I didn't know you lost it", then I was going to say "Man, you were lucky!"

I added an Endura to my collection several months ago as well. I had been looking for one (not very hard but keeping my eyes open) but the only ones I ran across were full serrated. Finally ran across a plain edge, it was the only Spyderco in the shop.

The ATS 55 seems to be good steel, it sharpens easily, takes a great edge and holds it fairly well.

The Endura has become my high risk knife. The knife I carry where I need a good knife, but consider the risk of loss or damage too high for my Wegner. You are right, if push came to real push I could I think get along with just the Endura.

Shootist, I agree that the Endura is just about perfect for n everyday work knife. Even though I carry more expensive knives, I think any rational person would admit that an Endura or Delica is really all that any needs when it comes to folders. I know alot of people stress tha they use their $200 or $300 knives as working tools, but I think most people prfer to work with tools they can afford to replace if they break. In the real world that means buying quality within reason, afterall, there is such a thing as the law of diminishing returns.

It was my first knife, ten years ago. It has been to hell and back and is still running strong.

yeah... spydercos are pretty nice knives. i prefer the sog autoclip though... it's not much for looks, but after having that thing for over a year and putting it through hell, it held it's edge as if it just came out of the package... but yeah, that endura looks nice... what's the price range on it?

I do like, and carry, the endura, but I think if I had to get along with only one knife, I'd go smaller. It's a great size for large chores, but for peeling a grapefruit, or notching a deadfall trigger, I prefer something I don't have to choke up on quite so much.
