I finally made it to the range. Now to clean or not to clean?

A rifle is a piece of machinery. There are no strange voodoo rules about looking after it.
Keep it clean and lubricated and unless it is some piece of Chinese Communist junk it will perform as designed for decades.

I will refrain from posting my opinions on the "never clean a .22" brigade. This is not Whine and Cheese and my bad language may offend.

+1, and to add that I agree that it's bull that overcleaning has ruined more then not cleaning. Neglect is neglect, and the copper brush is far less wear then a copper jacketed projectile. Old wives tales and whatnot.

And going WAY faster then my lubed up copper bore brush.

It's also creating way more friction and touches the bore far more intimately. What you say may have been true 50 years ago, but not today with modern cleaning supplies and methods.

.... faster...... lubed up .........

........friction ........touches.......intimately........

Sorry, had to.
:D

For what it's worth, I'm going to go clean my .22 and I'll let you guys know how much crud I get out of it.

if it was cyclone id clean clean clean...i put 1500 rounds of winchester cyclone through my 10-22 and my barrel was full of lead...ruined my barrel...

Clean the CZ, but I don't think it's necessary to clean it every time you use it. I have the 452 Trainer, and I run a bore snake throught it about once a year. I'll also clean the bolt while I'm at it. I don't see the need to do more than that, although I do check the bore after every range trip.

The only Winchester ammo I will ever use is the Supreme loads, and those are centerfire. Their white box pistol ammo is junk. Ranks right up there with Remington UMC. I picked up a couple boxes of UMC 45acp on sale one day, as I was heading out in to the desert. Didn't figure 5 or 600 rounds would be enough :D, and the store was close. It was the dirtiest stuff I think I have ever used in factory loads.

I've used 1,000's of rounds of Remington green box 22 ammo, and never had any problems with it.

22s? BoreSnake after each range session, wipe the whole gun down with Ballistol. Complete clean every coupla years or when it starts choking, unless you drop it in the river, get caught in the rain/snow, then clean as soon as possible.

I clean my 22's just like the rest of them - after I shoot. I just feel better ;)

I always clean my guns after shooting. It's quality time spent with your gun, why wouldn't you do it? :D On .22 rifles, I usually just run a patch with Hoppe's on it through the barrel, then a couple of dry patches, and then a patch with a bit of oil through. Clean up the bolt and the breech a bit and you're good to go. I use a pull-through, nylon coated cable- you're not going to wear anything with that. I only run a brush through if I blow through a brick or more in a sitting.

Some seem a little worried about brushes.Guess it depends on the brush.I did stop using the cheap china made ones after the nylon brush I had wore out and just swabbed and pushed a patch through with a jig.Seemed like I started cleaning more brush leftovers out than gunk.I recently bought a Otis kit and it has really good brushes with it,still use the jigs as well.IMO the jigs clean the bore better than anything I have ever used.

I clean stuff once it starts having issues. the only gun i clean after shooting is my CZ858 and only because I shoot corrosive ammo through it.

Whip over to rinmfirecentral.com and learn about PatchWorm [ basically a heay duty weedeater line - one end has a stop, the other a sharp point]..pierce a patch and run through from the chamber. You could use dry or drop or so of your favorite brand of CLP.

No need for a brush..you ain't scrubbing out copper and cleaning from the chamber protects your crown which might get dinged using a rod.

PatchWorm and an old tooth brush for bolt cleaning have kept my .22 LR and .17 HMR
running strong for years. It IS worthwhile to wipe down exterior metal for finger prints and I use Old English Lemon furniture polish on my wood stock rifles every 1-2 years[ there is BETTER stuff, I'm just not picky].

Enjoy your CZ 452 mine is .17 HMR Varmint - I love it, prairie dogs not so much. I've never had an issue with CZ 452 mags and they get heavy use..now .204 CZ 527 mags took a one(1) time tuneup.

I too have never heard that one should clean their 22 rifle sparingly. I just read this thread , the only thing that came to mind as to why this 'rumor' , 'tale' etc would be told is that you should not scratch your barrel while cleaning , I guess with larger calibers one might be able to get away with some of that but 22 being smaller barrel... ?
Get what I'm trying to convey ?
I also clean all my firearms after shooting.

There are safer ways to clean your firearms than metal brushes.
