I finally ordered a Randall... now the wait...

Owning a Randall was always a "dream knife" for me. I could never bring myself to pay the outrageous second hand market prices, and the wait felt ridiculous. I've come to terms with;
A - things aren't getting any cheaper
B - the wait isn't really getting any shorter
C - even if I found someone foolishly selling for cost, it still wouldn't likely be my ideal dream piece.

So I put in my order, and now the wait begins. 6 years I'm told... feels like forever though, but at least this way I get exactly what I want.

I'm hoping to make small payments every couple months so by the time of delivery it's paid for.

Serenity now! [J/C]

Good for you! I’d like to tell you it goes by quickly but it is going to be a test of your patience. I hope you have other knives to use in the meantime. 😂

The price usually goes up every January. So ordering in Nov/Dec is smart.

The base price and price for each option goes up. Figure $25-$40 each year. So in six years when it is ready. You will be paying $150- $240 less than retail.

I know that there are some reasons when it comes to requesting a non-standard option or two, but I've often wondered why folks don't go through an Authorized Dealer. As I understand it, and unless I'm way off base, they have allotments and get new knives about every month to every quarter.

I believe that my last took about 10-11 months, and even that felt like an eternity.

I remember drooling over Randalls in the Abercrombie & Fitch store in Chicago back in the 60s, along with the Purdys and Westley Richards in the gun racks. Spyderco has some Randalls in its factory outlet shop in Golden, Colorado, the only place I've seen them on display. Blackjack/Bark River makes some replicas that are pretty close, from what I read. Hope your Randall comes along sooner than six years.

It's been forever since I lived in Orlando but when I went by the shop they used to keep a few on display for sale. If you are anywhere near Florida it would make for a nice side reason for a vacation road trip idea. If of course they still sell in the store.

pretty sure they don't sell their knives in the shop anymore. cool if they did, but would just encourage some local to try to buddy up and take advantage and flip them.......

Well, here's a pic of my Model 2-7:

Bought it for a "good price" on The Exchange because there was pitting on the blade apparently due to being stored in the sheath. Sent it to Randall for a spa treatment. It was fixed for not too much $ & it looks as good as new. 😊

I would love to think they wouldn't let that happen but then again they are in the business of selling, not limiting their own sales. It was a tiny hole in the wall kind of shop twenty years ago. I keep saying if I ever have a reason to go down I95 then I will make that trip again.

still is that way, just no Randall knives for sale though.

most (all) of them are marking up now. One dealer I used sold at current retail for years, but now he has none in stock.

Was 2 years when I first wanted one. I ended up hemming and hawing then realized if i had just ordered it I would have already had it.

By then the wait was 4 years. I just received my daughters after 73 months.

Best thing is to think ahead. Order your childs graduation present when they are 12, order your retirement present when you are 59, etc.

I think of the wait as therapeutic in this insane instant gratification world.

I wanted a few things that didn't seem to be standard was part of the problem. Even the dealers now are quoting a year round a year and a half.
. . .

So, which Randall did you order?

congrats, and what model did ya get? I've never bought one direct and waited. got my first from eveled here. then couple others from dealers with stock and one other from another friend here.
I ordered a model 1 - 7, with maroon micarta, nickel silver guard, duralumin buttcap, and lanyard hole with lanyard.

:-)
