I finally ordered a Randall... now the wait...

I ordered Stacked leather, model 5, commando grip, half guard. 6 inch blade.

The commando grip was a must because that's one of the things I really love about the OG from my grandpap.

Little over 3 years left to wait lol. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just kept an eye on secondary but you know what, it will be my own brand new Randall the way I wanted it.

My model 1 has the Commando grip. I like it a lot. My son had free reign to order anything he wanted. He ordered a knife identical to mine but stainless. IMG_1443.jpeg

I once waited six years for a Scott Cook Loscha & he never got back to me, but that's another story. I couldn't fathom waiting that long for a custom knife let alone a production knife. You have more patience than me OP. I hope it's everything you wanted when you get it in 2030.

I ordered a model 1 - 7, with maroon micarta, nickel silver guard, duralumin buttcap, and lanyard hole with lanyard.

That sounds nice! May I ask, though, why the silver nickel guard paired with a duralumin buttcap? Other than the handle, that is the configuration of mine as posted in #6. I got this on the secondary market and sometimes wish the guard and buttcap were both nickel silver, like the brass/brass on the 2-5 pictured below that, for a more harmonious look.

I will say the balance is pretty neutral right on the guard, as it is. Not that I'll ever get in a fight with it. 😀

Long long time ago, I ordered a Lochsa and waited about three years. He never told me when it would be done and I didn’t ask!

Out of the blue one day, he called me at work to let me know that my slot was up and to confirm what I wanted. I had my new Lochsa in 10-14 days.

It isn’t the longest that I have waited for a custom knife!!

Randall uses the duralumin pommels for balance. They only recommend the heavier brass/nickel pommels on knives over 8” I believe.

Of course that is just their opinion.

A good example: Brass guard and duralumin pommel on the 1-8 I sold Jesse. It was very lively and fast in hand. It also had the most curved handle I’ve seen on a model 1. It is a special knife.

Buy now on EBay or wait six years? For me I would be buying now. Even if you paid double (I have know idea about pricing) the joy of ownership for six years would make up for the additional cost IMHO.

I don't believe they offer a duralumin guard, or a nickel silver cap, and I don't care for the look of no cap or all brass [or the look of brass when it gets oxidized].

None on eBay or from a dealer were the configuration I liked though. The maroon micarta itself seems pretty rare.

I would never pay over list price for a Randall. I also don’t sell them for over list price.

I really didn’t mind the wait. I had a perfectly good KA-BAR to use in the mean time. It’s only a $50 deposit what’s the big deal? You can’t stop the clock.

I have watched Randall’s on ebay and only saw one sell for below list price. A gently used Astro. Pretty neat knife in it’s own way. Designed by Gordon Cooper and taken into space. It is the only Randall made with a stainless guard. IMG_2967.jpeg

the fun part of this thread is it will get buried and six years later be dug up and someone's gonna say.....old thread

it is a great knife. it does have a nice balance and feel to it. course all Randall's have balance and Ergos that are just right. hard to explain but once in your hand you get it.

anyways its still in my collection and will be til I'm dead, most likely.......
