I was browsing Strider knives at an on line retailer and saw the following:

1. A tiger stripe blade folder with flames on the frame lock. lol
2. A camo tanto with paracord wrap
3. A tiger stripe karambit with "ranger green" handles

Heck, you can even get a strider zippo with the ace of spades and a skull. Lol

Now, they are far too expensive for 12 year olds that play CoD, so who buys this fluff?

Armchair commandos? I'm sure some have strong opinions to justify the prices of these knives.

What is the draw?

I mean come on.. They have a picture of a Swat looking guy in a face mask with a m16 and holding a knife. Lol

I won't buy the custom folder with the "nightmare grind" and "stealth bead"..

I mean come on now! A nightmare grind! WTF is that!

A stealth bead! These guys probably rofl when they sell this stuff,

So don't buy one.

Exactly. I know several grown men with a bunch of discretionary income and excellent taste in other knives, who also collect Striders. De gustibus non est disputandum: there is no arguing with tastes.

What's the difference between buying an expensive sports car or a high quality knife that looks cool, do you absolutely need one no but it puts a smile on your face which is what it's all about anyway right? I don't own a Strider "yet" but I am sure I will in the future they are sweet looking knives and from what I hear very rugged.

They sell a knife called the M-10 Sniper for gods sake with the words "SNIPER" on it.. I mean good lord.

And a $400 "tactical machete"...

I do think it's OK to discuss this. It not like sacred territory or something.

What's the draw? They obviously are Very successful, they're all sold out!

I can't afford one, but if I could I would definitely own one. The blade/handle shape is awesome, the fit and finish is very good, and they're exclusive. If you don't like it, you don't like it.

I don't get the draw either. I've owned Striders and have never been impressed. I'm not much for their advertising either. Some guys swear by them. To each their own.

The Nightmare grind is an actual grind. I believe it was originally named so because the grind is such a pain in the ass to do that it was dubbed the nightmare grind.

Off the bat, some of these knives are made out of some fairly fancy steels S110v for example, very thick stock, some are handmade/ground, customs ect. The prices might not be agreeable for some, but I don't think they are anything out of line compared to some other brands. I don't think their designs are too ridiculous either, not like some other brands out there.

+3 Don't get one.

I see hypocrisy that's justified on this forum for Strider though.

It's silly by many on this forum to buy the $50 Bear Grylls Survival Knife but it's somehow ok to but the $325 Strider M-10 Chuck Mawhinney Sniper Knife.

And it's BS that they're made for "operators" and soldiers. When I served I didn't many e-2s that could afford that, hell even a Leatherman was an investment back then.

overpriced - yes
overrated - probably

but I do have few , even custom one ( very overpriced )
I just like thick blades and TI- framelocks . very strong folders and they look better then you use them .
...

dont care about fixed stuff .

So you're angry that guys aren't buying the BG survival knife or you have serious or legitimate issue with Strider knives? Confused am I.

Wow,
quite some interesting reading about Mick Stryder and Dwayne Dwyer. Not making any judgements, just saying it was interesting.
To me the knives look good , I really like the gunner grip , and cracked ice finish. I don't care for the Tacticool ones though. But for the price , that puts me into the custom range which for me , I'd rather have. And their true customs are out of my price range, someday though maybe I'll pick up an SNG to see what it's all about. Some knives just seem to have huge followings, these and Chris Reeves knives. I guess you can't knock them til you try them.

Exactly. :)

They are ment to be used and used hard and they can take just about anything in any environment under just about any condition and they will come back and say "Is that all you got"

People can say whatever they want, Strider really knows how to make a framelock and overall strong knife.

+1 on this, and +4 on "Then don't buy one."

Funny I rarely ever see a used and abused 400 strider that keeps asking for more..

Most are safe queens.

Personally. I owned one long enough to know I'll never own one again. I think they fit the bill for a hard use folder. But I would never again pay 400 for a knife that feels like it should cost 200-250. My ZT/Hinderer 551 is twice the knife a strider is and almost half the cost. If Stider made their knives with higher tolerances and added a SS or TI liner on the G-10 side, and upgraded to a better pivot, keeping the same cost. It would rival CRK and the umnumzaan which I got to replace the Strider I never should have gotten.
