Here is a walking stick I just completed for my mom. She was here on break - picked a stave out of the dozen or so I have and I quickly whipped this up for her.
I did 4 coats of Golden oak stain, three coats of gloss poly, and a cap at the base. Glued on with 2 ton epoxy and screwed in place. I also hammered the finish on the cap and did a instant patina.
I used an SAK to harvest the stave (standing dead), I used an Aurora to strip the bark, and a Case Warncliff to clean it up. I then used a barrel sander on my dremel for the carving and then cleaned that up with some 220 hand sand paper.
I think it turned out okay.
