This knife was for a charity build at knifedogs.

Thought you all might like to see it.

Being my first folder and second completed knife I am overall happy with it.

The blade when closed, is angled to the one side. I could not figure out how to fix it. I think is caused by the detent ball.

here are a couple pics.

Ernie,

I could only hope my first knife is a fraction of the workmanship!!! Great job:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

P.s. Do you think it could be something going on with the liner?

Very nice, Ernie--I am impressed! Can you not adjust the blade angle with different width washers? I know folks complain big time when their blades are a LRCH off when the knife is closed (as if it really matters).

You did good, Ernie. Specially since your second knife was a folder. You show true promise man!

Keep it up...I have no info to offer on the straightening of the blade. I am strictly fixed blades right now:D

Keep it up!!

Chris

That looks GREAT!!!
Now I may have to try my hand at a folder because looking at yours makes me want one.

Congrats

Very nice. I've been curious about replacing a couple folder blades, but not making the entire knife. I just checked three of my store bought folders and they all push to the right, away from the detent ball. Since it does push against the blade, it would make sense to be off center, unless you really tighten everything. But then you would have trouble opening it.

Thanks for all the praises so far

I am sure it is the detent but With the blade already hardened I do not think drilling is an option.
I was sure I had the hole big, and deep enough. it closes really nice and it held closed a little.

That's amazing, man! I tried a folder once, it's still in a pile in the corner of the shop.:o
This is a great knife even it it was your 50th.

Pretty sweet. I have not attempted a folder, I can buy one for around 100$ that is probably as good as anything I could make. I occasionally make a replacement blade for my Benchmade's but so far I lack the patience to try making a complete one. Good job,
it takes some stones to try a folder for your 2nd piece!

You could try passing a reamer through the bolsters and liners. I would make a spacer that is the same thickness as your blade. Assemble your knife using the spacer in place of the blade. make sure your drill press table is perfectly level and pass through your reamer. Also make sure your detent ball protrudes no farther than the thickness of your washer.

Ernie,

Very nice knife. I also saw the one over on knifedogs for tom (maybe?) with the coffin handle, you my friend are moving very quickly with your skills. I still remember when you posted your first WIP pics of you on your deck before you even moved inside! Keep up the good work.

Ern,

You are a MACHINE, having your own space really does boost your moral, no matter the size. I work in a small out building not much bigger than yours, hey, its easier to heat :p.... great job man and extremely ambitious going with a folder on your second build, I have yet to mess with folders... you are well on your way, and you should be proud of that one.

Good effort. Don't get discouraged, it's only your second knife. I am sure you'll do better on the next one. :p ;)

The knife looks great. The slant is likely due to the pressure of the locking bar. Even a small amount of play at pivot is multiplied by the length of the blade and can push the blade off center. The IKBS helps this, but may not eliminate it. To keep the blade more centered, I relieve the bolster and scale under the lock bar by about 0.015. This allows the bar to move over when the blade is closed and not squeeze the lock bar against the bolster.
Otherwise, if you make the pivot too tight or squeeze the liners against the washers to eliminate play, the blade gets hard to move. Of course, you have to start out with perpendicular pivots with as little play as practicable, but you still have that side pressure against the blade that slipjoints do not have.
