I went out of town for a couple of days and happened upon a store with quite a bit of knives and stuff. I was talking to the owner(?) about the new Sharpmaker and happened to mention the diamond Speed Sleeves (and how I wished they would bring them out again). He said, "We have some of those." I couldn't believe it. They weren't in any packaging but they were definitely brand new. The price was right also.

Unfortunately it was the last pair they had.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean for it to come out that way. I was so excited when I got home I just wanted to share. This does go to show that there are some out there just waiting to be found. I doubt I found the last new pair in the country.

Or maybe I did?!?

Diamond impregnated pieces of metal that slide over one of the flat sides of the sticks on the Sharpmaker. Makes taking off more metal possible while still maintaining same bevel. They haven't been manufactured for a while now and I was psyched to find them.

Don't people just use a coarse diamond 2x6 leaning up against the stick on the 204? I ordered a DMT coarse 'plate' and am wondering how it works, you know , according to Joe's famous FAQ.

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

Kellster thats a great idea, I sold my old 203 and patiently waiting on my 204, for a couple of reasons, one it's supposed to be really well thought out and made well and two, Sal's on a video! Neat stuff.

PS
Paul, why didn't you just go...
Nah na na nah na!

I think that our local Spyderco agent here in South Africa has a few Diamond Speed Sleeves left. When I got mine quite some time ago, they had quite a few! The 'average' Joe on the street does not have too much appreciation for Speed Sleeves, so they're selling slow. If anyone is interested, I can find out if they have any more left (they should!). We can maybe work something out?!?!?

Last time I did something like this was when I got a few guys (SA exclusive) black-handled Matriarchs, and while being quite a schlep, I am willing to go that route again if you guys REALLY want some!

EMAIL me if you are REALLY interested... (see profile for EMAIL address)
