TYRADE. Talk about some kinda knife! I do not know of one thing I would change. It opens fast, blade locks up perfect, and the blade feels like a fix blade. It is also, one fine looking knife. Hope I am not the only one who likes this knife.

Composite blade of 2 good steels, Ti handles, carbon fiber, Kershaw. What's not to like? ;)

I like the very discernible click when it opens. :D

My only deflection is the size and a wasted high end steel for the spine. Otherwise, its killer.

Everything about it is PERFECT in my opinion, except the tip down carry, which is a deal breaker for me. :(

You are correct on the wasted high end steel. My original suggestion was they use waste bubble gum from the bottoms of the desks around the office. Forge it, grind it then temper it to a rc of about 8. It would have been a heckuva cost saver:eek::p

On a more serious note, I am sure it had to do with using the absolute best on a showcase knife. You have to remember this one was designed to be a winner at Blade Show and just flat out TOO doggone cool. It is noteworthy that they haven't done it since:thumbup:

I thought about this a bit more so I am adding an EDIT:

The Tyrade is an exercise in excess, oozing CF onlays, the thickest Ti frames I have ever seen on a production knife, 2 mid high end steels..... It's like that chocolate cake with the whipped dark chocolate filling and the raspberry sauce that I gladly pay 15 dollars for at that expensive restaurant knowing full well that it is going to give me heartburn so bad I can't sleep....decadent! I see no problems with the materials on the Tyrade, plus, it doesn't even give me heartburn.:D

And to add it is a Limited run of 2000 pieces.

Probably wouldn't sell to well if it was a combo of D2 and 420J.
j_curd, I see what you're saying, but in my eyes and maybe some others
it is more like a custom knife with the some of the best materials you can use.

Also, I think 154CM has become a pretty common steel these days for many
manufacturers.

Now, if the spine was S90V and the blade 110V I would agree with you. :D

154CM doesn't seem like much of a waste to me....

It's a great, workable steel that has excellent corrosion resistance, and is nowhere near brittle. The whole point of having a different steel on the spine of the tyrade is to add some something strong, yet flexible to the harder CPM-D2 edge, giving it an extra layer of strength and keeping it from breaking under hard use. I think it was a good choice for the job.

thus my point in asking what the steel was. 154CM isnt as "high end" as it used to be. it has been made to be mid-road at this point, with many makers and manufactures. compared to D2 then it is definatly the "worse" of the two. it isnt like they put s30v as the spine.

AND Blade's Knife of the Year! As spiral said, the Kershaw Tyrade was built for a specific purpose - winning. And it did!

BTW spiral: dang! Now I want some cake! But I'd gladly trade your cake for one of Ken's Tirades! Beautiful knives!

J_Curd, can you really ever waste high end steel? ;)

Only if it aint cuttin!

Put away the torches and pitchforks, Im on your side people! Egor (DV), where did I leave that damn brain?

Im just a really pragmatic guy, waste not want not yadda yadda...

And yes, I agree and understand the "double high end" choice in a showcase knife.
