I didn't need much of a nudge to completely fall in love with knives as a hobby. Besides being a VERY clumsy gal, it's still everything I love. What got you into knives, and what are your favorites? :]

Secondary question: If I was to ever one day REALLY spend some serious cash, which knife would you splurge on in a heartbeat and why? ^_^

Third question: Hi!! <3 You can call me
Sparkly. How are you today? :]

I think the standard issue knife that gets people into higher end stuff is a Chris Reeve knife of some sort. These knives are beautifully manufactured. There are very few knives that are built to such exacting standards. Even expensive customs I have seen are rarely built as well as a chris reeve. If someone is looking to get into nicer knives there isn’t one I can recommend more than a chris reeve. i suspect many other people will give you the same answer.

They are truly knives built so well that one of them could last you your entire lifetime. They have excellent warranty service and stand behind their product 100%

The knife on the left is a large Chris Reeve Inkosi, the knife on the right is a small Chris Reeve Sebenza 21.

They are some of the best titanium framelocks on the market. Infact Chris Reeve invented the titanium framelock.

Oh, wow, those are beautiful. Dare I ask, how much do they cost?

1. I am not sure what got me into it, I suppose in part playing outside as a kid and having a small forest right behind the house (which was essentially just an overgrown old rail road track) and getting a SAK from my grandfather and a cheapo Rambo Knife. It kind of stuck with me, and I was looking for a new hobby not too long ago and having something that branches "ME LIKEY!" with some practical aspects made sense.
Favorites...that's tough, I bought all the knives because I liked them. I think I would name the Olamic Wayfarer 247 since it's the most expensive and by pure chance the Serial Number turned out to be my birthday (225 , Bday is on May 22nd), followed by the Reate K-2 because it has the nicest action, followed by a PM2 which is modified (and a second which I am gonna modify). I really like all my ZT's too though, especially my 0392's.

2. Hmm, that's almost as tough. I am not sure, I might splurge on an Olamic Rainmaker, but more likely I would rather get some high end production folders instead.

3. I'm good, it being the weekend and all :D You can call me Boon. No need for fancy numbers up in here! I hope you're well too.

The small ones come in just under 3 inches too. Small ones are about 375$ new and large ones about $425 new. However you can find them for cheaper used on the exchange part of this forum.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper but still a great knife to get into higher end stuff I highly recommend the ZT 0450. This little knife can be had for about 160$ new and ZT has great quality standards as well.

If I remember from your other thread you said you needed knives under 3.25 inches?

Maybe we could give better suggestions if we knew a price range you were looking to spend.

For now here are some brands to check out. Look up their webpages and see if there is something you fall in love with: Spyderco, Kizer, Benchmade, Real Steel, WE knives, Zero Tolerance knives.

That should keep you busy.

Get a room :D

I started out in the early to mid 90's (in my 20's) with Cold Steels and a SOG Trident. Now I have several higher end knives that I love..including a few autos.
I also recommend the ZT0450. You cannot go wrong with the quality to cost ratio of this knife. I have the CF version which I just love.
BTW, still have a SOG Centi on my keychain and my first Cold Steel ;)

I don't buy expensive knives, just because of budgetary constraints and because I think it is a horrible waste of good funds (yes, I welcome criticism of my posts)... As a result, I can only answer the first question properly. I love Beckers. The BK9 (Becker Combat Bowie) is easily the best-balanced working knife that I have ever handled. You can check out the Becker subform if you're interested here on BladeForums. Welcome to the forums! :)

I've been into knives as long as I can remember, and got in trouble in preschool for swiping my grandfather's air force switchblade out of my dad's toolbox and brought it in with me, just 'cause I thought it was neat. I think I got the gene from my grandfather, as he was always into knives, but my father just saw them like any other tool. My favorites are the ones I design myself, and bringing them to life is an incredible feeling. But other than that, my passion is low-cost high-function edged tools. Good ol' Maine thrift makes hunting for price-optimized designs extremely enjoyable for me.

If splurging I'd be going custom and having something physically complex made--probably something of a historical style the likes of which is difficult to produce by common commercial means these days. Otherwise I stick to budget stuff that works solidly and don't feel like I need anything fancier. I went that path early in the hobby, and walked back from it when I started caring less about features and more about function.

And I'm doing well. Thanks for asking, and welcome to the forum!

Growing up in the woods got me into knives. 20 acres of exploring from age 12 forward.

When I was a kid I saw my Uncle in law's Titanium buck 560 and wanted it bad. I had a 110 knock off and some schrades /case/boker at the time .

Never got it but that did what CRK does for me now. I had dreams about that knife lol.

Since then it's been an up hill battle.

Hi Sparkly,
1. I've always liked and carried knives since I was young. Mostly Bucks and SAKs back then. When I was about 13-14, a friend of mine won a custom engraved full metal Spyderco Delica Spyderedge and I just thought it was the most badass knife I'd ever seen. Shortly thereafter I bought a Spyderedge Delica of my own. I loved it, and carried it daily for years until I lost it :(. About 7 years ago, I was introduced to ZT, and things just kinda spiralled out of control from there.

2. If I were to spend an outrageous amount of money on a knife, like more than I can afford or am willing to spend, it would either be on a Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 with Bocote inlay and ladder damascus blade or a Les George custom FM-1.

3. I am great today! Thank you for asking!

Welcome to the forum and kiss your money goodbye!

Welcome to our Club. We like it here, and we make some solid friendships here.
I'm a Spyderco fancier; something for every wallet.
Many people here, both larger folks and smaller, are perfectly happy with the Spyderco Delica...and it fits in your purse.

If I had the means and the Bunker Buster came up for sale, it would be mine.

Knives are an essential connection to history (insert recitation of the Viking invocation). They are tools of convenience, utility, and survival, and their story is almost as long as ours. We may not depend on them for our daily bread and the defense of our families on a regular basis anymore, but even the simple act of opening a plastic bag is a link (a tenuous one, I grant you), to this long history.

Growing up my dad always had a slip joint from sears in his pocket. As I got older And I needed something open or cut, my dad would always break out his knife and then quip to me how I need a knife as he cut whatever I asked of him. I never really thought about it. Fast forward a few years to being an “adult” I’ve had acquaintances that have had knives that I remember the blade shape or the action on. I’d say it was a slow burn that I was starting to feel. Then, around 2013-ish, I worked with a guy that was the same age as me and he had a knife that he would use often. Around the same time that I had started to notice his knife, I was reading American Sniper, and towards the beginning, the author was detailing his set up and he dropped Benchmade and Microtech. For some reason, the stars and planets aligned or there was a full moon, I decided very shortly after that I needed an edc. The rest was history.

If I had some serious cash to burn, I wouldn’t buy only one knife, but a handful of knives. I’d buy the Benchmade Adamas, Spyderco Manix 2 XL, and for the why-the-hell-not of it the CS Espada XL.

As for how I am, physically I’m fine but my little guy has contracted yet another cold/ear infection. He gets sick so often and easily that it wounds my heart to see him that way.

What got you into knives, and what are your favorites? I had an uncle who was in the Navy and when I was 7-8 years old he gave me my first pocket knife, I wish I still had it but lost it when I was around 15 on a camping trip. My favorite would have to be a Buck 110, I have owned 2 and carried one or the other for over 30 years. I still love them but I now carry something smaller and lighter with better steel. currently it is a Benchmade Mini Boost.

Secondary question: If I was to ever one day REALLY spend some serious cash, which knife would you splurge on in a heartbeat and why? No clue, I have never owned a "Safe Queen", every knife I have bought has been used as an everyday carry knife.

Third question: Hi!! <3 You can call me Sparkly. How are you today? Hi I'm Harry and I'm doing better than an old fat man should, loving life and enjoying every moment.

I don't remember not being into knives. I lingered at the knife display in the Katz drug store when I was just a pup. Bought my first knife there. My favorite? That depends on the day. Today is Spyderco and a tiny automatic, tomorrow maybe an Otter Messer or a Buck 112. I'm doing fine today, thanks for asking. I hope you are, as well.
