I got $300 to spend...

Well your feelings about the maker are up to you. But one thing to consider is the grind, his blades are pretty thick behind the edge, although he has a slicer option but not sure how slicey they actually are. (Meanwhile I keep going back to look at that Maverick, intriguing. . . )

Many options coming out of the woodwork to say the least, and to those curious, I have no problem with aftermarket/modifying as long as it's plug and play (not gonna grab a dremel).

Definitely don't grab a dremel! I'll do it on some types of mods but only because I spent the time learning on cheap knives. The main thing that keeps me from modding titanium is that I'm not set up to anodize or stone wash at home.

For titanium mods, just send it out. There are plenty of competent people here and elsewhere who can do various types of work at reasonable prices. I often use Knife Modders, the team who does mods for Monterey Bay Knives.

BTW, thickness behind the edge is a factor in how a blade cuts. Imagine the cross-section of a knife as a wedge. The shape of that wedge affects how it moves through material. Thickness behind the edge matters and so does overall blade thickness. In my opinion (and I'm not alone), lots of folders are much thicker in the blade than they need to be.

Guy asks for suggestions on a $300 framelock micarta scale folder and a bunch of folks recommended Hinderer. That's like $200 over his budget. Not gonna work Even at the secondary market.

Even ZT0562cf is a stretch unless he buys a second hand one and then add a SDK micarta scale. A second hand ZT0393 is another opinion - I really like the knife when the factory g10 (or cf depending on the model) scales are replaced with SDK micarta ones. This change makes the knife feels even better in hand than Hinderer Eklipse.

When you fall down the Hinderer hole...decide on what your 'perfect' XM-18 would be, decide that it is wrong and get another 'perfect' one in mind, tell yourself you can afford it even on the secondary market, debate whether or not you will adjust the angle of the edge, see the pros and cons, go back and forth, come to terms that you might wait years for a knife that you want and may end up settling in hopes for playing the sell/buy/sell/buy game just to get an older gen, I might need a reality check and get back on course in terms of what my original post was...I think this post is me sitting down, raising my hand and saying that I drank the Kool-Aid, but my kidneys would enjoy a glass of water...

That glass of water is a zt562ti, with some possible aftermarket scales...still a hinderer blade style, but honestly, for about $200~ less, in stock, and just as quality, that's sounds truly great.

Ok, looking for either A) a way/service to texture the heck out of my zt0562ti or B) a damn good textured micarta scale in either natural or gray black

You could use a gunsmith checkering file to create mega-grippiness, or if you don't want to risk it yourself check the customizing services subforum
