I got a box yesterday, It wasn't a triangle box but...

I can do that anytime. No funds required. I have a special pricing schedule for people like me that live "ON" the tracks. Free.

I was actually looking at the pics thinking of a checkering pattern, wouldn't be too tough especially on a new set but not difficult on the ipe. Might want to leave those aue natural though the way JW intended. Your call of course.

I'm ready whenever you are.

Dang Shavru thats beautiful and I love the texture on that blade. Nice size too. Dont worry bout the leather it will mellow out. I cant even smell mine. Might be all the other HI and Pugs leather around it tho:D That Ipe is cool. It grows all over my property and is very dense stuff. It usually splits if you dont stabilize it or oil it pretty soon. I have been experimenting with some ipe roots and for some reason this stuff dont split and is pretty amazing stuff. You would think being a root it would be saturated with water and be less stable but it aint? Im going to make a hammer handle with a piece to see how it holds up but its some super tuff stuff. Lucky you on a kick arse blade! Love it!

I have to say, I'd looked as JW's website before, but only given it a cursory glance. This thread made me take a close look and then go to his Facebook page, and I'm a convert. The variety of knives and the design work is amazing, as is the worksmanship. I was especially surprised to see a Fairbairn Cobra.

Scara, I am glad you took a second look. Custom blades are not cheap, but JW's are very reasonable comparatively and the quality is definately first rate. He does a lot of historic blades that I haven't seen anywhere else like the Fairbairn. I am so glad I ordered the one I did but there were a lot of others that have me drooling too.

I know of one company that does Cobras, but they're not cheap and you have to ship them from overseas, and they don't say what kind of steel they use. That wouldn't be a problem, except they use a variety of steels, some of them good, and some of them not so good. If I ever decide to get a Cobra, it'll be from JW. Of course I prefer the Smatchet, so I'd be more likely to inquire into one of those instead.

BTW for anyone considering a JW chakma, The ones without any wood on them the way he shaped the end sort of like a fish tail and it's taper to thinner make it really easy to hold while you use it.
