I Got a Golok

Curse you Condor! I have a golok and had crossed it off my list of knives to buy. Now you have gone and made interesting improvements and now I want a new one as well. There are already a dozen products of yours that I am interested in. You'll continue to make money off of me, but only because you make awesome and incredibly affordable tools that you stand behind, but I warn you, when the day comes that I have collected your entire product line (with a few spares of my favorite models of course) you will be recieving no more money from me... for at least a month... unless I have a weak moment...

I should be getting more in stock some time this week. Will post my findings. :)

CoyotePhysics--I know just what you mean! Their stuff is really addicting and I can't seem to stop myself from amassing large numbers of their products. I was a huge fanboy BEFORE I started a business, and now that I have lots of them sitting around it's doubly tempting--I'm in real trouble now! :D :D :D ...

Same!

I got my Condor Golok about 3 weeks ago & the sheath came in last week. I had to Mod the sheath for us SouthPaws so that it was a CrossDraw style for the Left handed person (popped the rivit out & put the belt loop on the other side of the sheath with a new rivit) Now I need a to play with it ! I also got The Condor Parang but they are out of stock on the sheath for it. Be sure to put a lanyard loop on that beast before you go chopping, you don't want that beast getting loose from you !

Which Would you prefer for shelter building or fire wood processing - the golok or parang.?

Ok--just got the box today but haven't had the chance to pull one out. I'll be doing the inspections on them this weekend along with the other models that came in, so I'll let you know super soon! :)

Ok--just cracked open the first of them for inspection and the verdict is in! Looks like the latest batch has the more graceful sweep and finer point to it. The blade also has a more uniform and pronounced taper and the grind is FLAWLESS. Like absolutely PERFECT. I'm honestly floored; you don't see grinds that evenly matched on $200+ knives, let alone a $50 one (sheath included).

P.S. Sorry for the lack of pics--I'm up to my ears in machetes and knives at the moment. :D

I just placed an order. Looking forward to trying it!

I think it will be more versatile than a hatchet, in my hands, at least.

Awesome--it'll get right out to you Monday. In my personal opinion they're MUCH more versatile than a hatchet. Hatchets and small axes have their place, but by the time I'm ready to set down the machete and pick up the axe I usually want a big one! :D

Same here- last time I used an axe was when I was one uping someone for failing at chopping with a little 3/4s axe
I took a maul to it and destroyed what he's been chopping forever in Afew minutes

My golok came today, courtesy of Baryonyx.

It is a pretty hefty tool! It is also pretty sharp for a blade of this type. I chopped away some overgrown saplings and branches along the driveway but parental duties intervened before I could do much more. I dinged the blade near the tip on a rock, but that came right out with a few swipes on a whetstone. Later on, I'll try some firewood splitting.

Glad it made it to you safe and sound! Destroy some stuff and take some pics! :D:thumbup:

Luckily I am home today because the mailman just left it on the ground by the side of the road under my mailbox! I would have hated for it to disappear.

What is the best method for sharpening this thing? It seems convex, so should I use sandpaper backed by something that gives a little?

I use a 1x30 HF belt sander when I'm at home but the ol' sandpaper/mousepad trick would do it as well. However, when I'm in the field I just use a coarse/fine DMT Diafold and sharpen like I would a regular knife.

Hey fortytwoblades- can you send me a email when you get a chance, want to ask you afew things
( I'm on my phone so it's really troublesome to find emails)
