I went on an interview today, and drove 300 miles!! But it was worth it!! I applied through Monster.com for an armed security position ( http://www.mvminc.com/). ( THAT is the company that I am going to be working for.) I got an E-mail from them the week of Christmas, wanting a faxed copy of my Class A LTC, to attach to my resume. New Years Eve, I get a call about setting up an interview for today. I was out to dinner at the time. I called him back and said that I was most interested in interviewing. They called me back yesterday to set up the interview for today. This company does security for the Federal Gov't/ Homeland Security. I wll have a starting salary of $18.90 an hour!! I start my 3 week (I believe it is 3 weeks.) They issue firearms; .38 revolvers. They said the Feds. mandate this weapon. I am cool with that!! I LOVE wheel guns! Our first part of the training is firearm training. We are getting trained by a retired State Police Officer. Then there is classroom stuff. And THEN we take a gov't test. Now, I wait for my packet to arrive, and fill out what I need to fill out and get notarized what I need to get notarized. I am REALLY excited about this!! I soooooooo wanted this job!! Oh, and it is a UNION security job. I am so stoked!! This is EXACTLY what I wanted!! Happy B-day to me!! (it is the 12th by the way.)

Concratulations, I hope since it is a Union position you will be getting some form of Health and Welfare along with the wage. A good benefits/retirement package will serve you well in the long run. Best of luck!

New job? Gee, you don't sound at all excited about it! ;) LOL!

Congrats! Let us know how much sleep you get the night before you start. :D

Yes, I do get health and wealthfare!! And for my training, I DO have a 300 mile daily drive! Then, I will be working in Boston. Yeah, I too wonder how much sleep I will be getting the night before too! I didn't get much the night before the interview!! Sheesh!

Well, I hope that you enjoy the job. It's always nice to start something new, especially if it's exactly what you want. Glad about the benefits too. Salary doesn't mean much; from your postings, you'll just spend it all on knives.....:D

My suggestion is that you don't try to do the drive from the Cape into Boston during rush hour, especially the return trip in the summer. Hopefully you can time it so that you are going against traffic...

I dunno what hours yet that I will be working yet. I am am sure it will work out. Yeah, in the summer, that commute could be hell! It will all work out!! I LOVE security work. This is not my first time doing this kind of work. It is nice to have a job in this field that actually pays well!! I am thrilled!!

Hey KnifeCollector,
not that I'm one to give any advice (as I don't work a normal job), but whatever job you get, consider it a stepping stone to something bigger and better.

Anyway, good luck!

Knife Collector,

Congratulations!

38 revolver ? now I feel so much more secure !!!

A .38 Special will do the job nicely. A good man with a S&W Model 10 will eat the lunch of a lot of posers with "space guns."

or good woman. they don't call them "equalizers" for nothing.

And I agree about the .38 special.

There are better cartridges than the 38 spec. However training is the key. In NYC when they carried 38s the hit probability in actual shootouts was 20%. Now with a 9mm auto it's 10% !!!!

Well, I do not have a choice about the .38. That is what I am issued, and what I HAVE to use.

Ehhh... well, it's a classic, if nothing else, but it's the JOB that counts! Hey, maybe you can hunt down one of your compatriots somewhere in SE Minnesota who is currently walking around carrying my Mini-Manix.
