How can I convince my wife that I need more than just one knife...

I love my new RC-3, and in passing conversation with her brought up the fact that any knife I purchase from now on will have to be the same "brand".
Her response: "How many knives do you need?!?!"

So, any suggestions on how to explain the fact I might possibly need more in the (very near) future?

Do you have a job and bring money into your household? 'Cause I do, and if I want to buy something, I don't ask, I just get it. I'm not gonna take food outta my kids mouths or clothes off their back, but if I need(want) something, I get it. Just sayin'. Moose

PS. If that don't work, try romance, wine, roses, and a "good" night in. Then order it while she's sleepin' it off.

For some reason flowers (inexpensive) and diamonds (expensive) get just about an equal reaction. They're wondrous strange creatures. I just wish mine wasn't so familiar with my gear, so I could slip new stuff by her.

If it's your money you don't need her permission to buy anything. Does she ask you before making a purchase?

Just get it and don't tell her about it.

I'm also a guitarist as well as a knife collector. If my wife ever questions a knife purchase, I would just tell her "It's cheaper than another Les Paul"

I got an Epiphone SG for a Maxpedition Pack, a RAT-7 with discontinued Survival Sheath and a couple other things, IIRC. :D

I'm patiently waiting for the Epiphone SG and Fender Strat to have offspring..."Now, how the hell did that happen, Amy? Look, the two guitar stands made a third one, too." :D

I really try to stay the hell out of places like Guitar Center. That Tony Iommi Signature Series SG is just too cool for school. :)

one for every potential zombie-at least. Discounting me (they'll never catch me ;) ) that's 6 billion and some change.

Now she doesn't ask such questions anymore. She got into scrapbooking and started getting all of the little bits that make that hobby/pastime go. Now she gets it, at least to some degree.

Hopefully we all learned long ago to stop confusing 'need' with 'want'. I want a few ESEE knives (have one, ordered another, thinking about at least one more). I need to pay my mortgage, other bills, feed the kids and make sure stuff is taken care of.

Once the needs are met, you can work on the wants. We all have priorities. If she wants something (new shoes), get those, then if you want a knife, you get that. Back and forth. You should be able to build a stable of fine knives and not end up in counseling over it. If not, then just buy what you want and don't talk to her about it. :-)

I've been selling guitars to fund more knives and gear. Just unloaded a Tele and a Les Paul on ebay. Seems I'm having no trouble finding items to spend the money on. :D
