I got fired due to my knife and my stupidity.

When you cut up the flowers she may have interpreted it as a hostile demonstration. Toward whoever got her the flowers. In fact, it probably was, if you search your mind and feelings.

I know a guy in the security industry who is always getting a new folder and he waves it around thinking this impresses people. It does. In the wrong way.

Even worse, he has no idea how to sharpen a knife and does not know angle and bevel from a hole in the ground.

But this is another topic.

Probably not. But I did. Does this bother you?

The US Postal Service has traditionally had a much lower rate of industrial violence than American industry generally. In fact, outside industry had asked to join in on our seminars on industrial violence, since we were so successful at avoiding it.

Unfortunately, when there was an episode of it, the newspapers headlined it, further fueling prejudice against the Postal Service, without putting facts in context.

Thanks for the cheap shot.

I don't know, Keith. I always read Cliff's intelligent reviews with interest yet quite often some dolt decides to take a pith on it! ;)

I used a Kershaw Chive. It did very well with the woody stems.

The coworker and I always got along very well and there was no ill will involved. I meant it as a joke. The owner of the flowers didn't see the humor. Egg on my face. I sent an apology and explanation to her. Other than that, there's nothing I can do about it now. By the way, I've got a ton of great jobs on deck now. This was a blessing in disguise.

For those of you worried about knives being banned in the workplace due to this. No mention of a knife was ever made or implied in this case. A Chive is discreet enough to never have anyone notice it. I do not, and never would, blame anything like this on the knife itself. That's just like saying, "Even though I pulled the pin and threw it, it was the grenade that did the killing."

Momentary stupidity can change you life, many times for the better.

It's good to see that you have recognized your behavior, admitted that it was your mistake and have moved on. I terminated a worker for an act of violence (more serious than this) several years ago and he still thinks I was simply out to get him.

Yeah sure. WHO GAVE HER THE FLOWERS? Was she rejecting your present? These items were not addressed in either of your posts.

Omg, Let it go guys.

Sure hope the lot of you, can stand up an face when you have done something stupid, wrong or otherwise in poor judgement.

In a public forum.

Somehow i doubt it.

Try being a lawyer and then complain to me about cheap shots. :grumpy: This morning I did a pro bono case for a woman with alzheimer's disease, representing her in a guardianship proceeding. You won't read about that in the paper, but you'll probably read about something that will make you say "ambulance chaser"

How strange! I guess I learned from my grandfather (long ago) the reason they are called pocket knives. They belong in your pocket. Are you really suprised that you got fired? I'll bet you would be even more suprised that your actions (cutting up those poor defenseless flowers) gives not only you, but other knife lovers a bad name. As someone else posted earlier, ther has to be more to the story. DES

u know if knives get banned in the workplace over there in no time it will go round the world.oh what will i do then:grumpy: ?i'l have to fire myself for making knives.:D :D

This may be the greatest quote I've ever responded to! Funny!!:D :D

Was the cutting of the flowers accompanied with Bruce-Lee-movie-style ninja noises? I mean, if you are going to get fired for an act of stupidity, hopefully it was a truly memorable act, an academy award winner...

We have a "No knife" pollicy at work that no one follows. My bosses(2 at least) cary.I EDC a Fallkniven F1 and a SAK most of the time and no one even bats an eye.Though I work in a warehouse and not an office.

Entertaining. Hope your next job is better for you. I've done some stupido stuff in my youth too, although not in my office! Live, learn, grow and be happy. At least nobody was hurt and you'll have a silly story to relate to your kids and grandkids, and you can teach them from your mistakes.
Best-MC:)

On EDCing at work, I found that even my Spyderco Kiwi was a little too menacing for people's comfort. Nowadays I carry a slipjoint (stockman or whittler) no more than 3 3/4 inch closed length.
