Peter, all my bow shots have been from 7 to 35 yards this year:thumbup:

THis 8 pt was shot at roughly a 100 yds quartering away to the left.

I havebeen fortunate this year to have had a lot of em close. I am real serious about being scent free.

I have used scent free soap since the first of September. I wash alll my clothes in scent free or dead down wind, and I use all the scent killer, toothpaste, deodorant sprays before going in and while in the woods.

THe most important thing is to keep your set up so that the deer are upwind.

If they are not....dont hunt that stand til its right

I will say this...if it wasnt for you hunters, i would never get to see hot celebs in the nude posing for PETA...thank you animal slayers!!

I am quite envious of your hunting successes this year KH. I've been hunting for many years and never gotten any deer even close to that. I killed a B&H Sitka Blacktail my senior year of high school, but everything since then has been on the small side.

I bagged a spike deer on opening day this year, but a ruptured Achilled Tendon put a screeching halt to my season. I managed to get in a couple of days road hunting for moose, but I was pretty much just wasting fossil fuel. Hopefully next year will be more successful. I dream of taking something with my .454 Casull.

I hear ya brother. I hope you heal up properly and fast:thumbup:

THe more I hunt the more I like bigger, and heavier projectiles.

Big holes = easier to find:)

I been hunting for 30 years. I spend a lot of time in the woods each year, and have never taken anything like these two either. THere is a lot of luck involved. THis was a matter of seconds or my season would be totally different. Just a matter of seconds between life and death, between success and failure.

THe 13pter did come from Illinois and it was my 2nd trip out there. THe first time I missed a Boone and Crocket 8 pointer with my bow that made me loose my mind.:D

THis 8pter came from within a few miles of my house and he's mature. THere are much better bucks around here but they are rarely seen and even fewer get shot. THe difficulty is that most folks here shoot everything they see, so its hard for them to reach maturity. ITs a proven fact that bucks dont start optimum horn production until they're about 4 years old because the minerals are going to bone production. Its not until they are fully grown that most the intake goes into horn production.

I cant wait to get them on the wall.

I just realized that you are in Virginia!!! Hook a brother up! I'll trade hard for hunting trips ;)

Hope you have many more successful outings this year. If you're ever in the Va Beach area let me know. It's pretty nasty here right now after the storm, but if you ever want to come over and hit the piers for some fishing, I am always ready.
