I Got MINE Today!!!!! AC Gurkha Kukri and Kardas!!!!

Yvsa, you described your new baby (congrats!) as a "WW II Model." It looks to me like the type D show in the AC catalog -- sopposedly a "WW I" model.

The knife being discussed is the AC model D(#1-137). I have never discovered a mark or name designation for this model, but this is the only one I had identified as an issue model for the Nepalese Army from around 1880. That is until the awesome cache brought over from Nepal. They have given me the contacts over there and I await answers to a long list of questions.

Here is the kukri discussed with it's proper scabbard. Note the unique cho protrusion. I was hoping this was standard, but although I've seen this design on other Nepali Army pieces only a few from AC have had this feature. The chape is steel, not brass and this has the original karda & chakmak with the same light coloured wood.

Edited since pix went into the ether somewhere...

Thomas you're correct. I mistakenly called it a WW II. It is indeed a WW I model.:)

Good effort Dean but John's pic nails it spot on. The handle on mine looks in better shape though. Its' somewhat rough, looks almost rasped, handle top is something to muse over.

Those interested in the older blades being thinner might note that the blades on the AC "C" #1-134NS models is advertised as being 9/32" which is 1/32" over 1/4 inch!!!!

the picture disappeared...trying again

Pictures do funny things. The grip on this is actually very solid and what look like cracks are colour striations.

This is also marked on the pommel with what appears to be the #2. If any of you have gotten AC models and they are stamped could you please email me directly and let me know? I would appreciate it.

JDP, you already know about the markigns on the 1-136 that I received. I ordered a type D and I'll let you know about the markings it bears.
