A good knife for EDC, but mainly self defense.

I've carried a Blur recently, but due to the width of the blade, it has become a issue with my mother (I'm 14).
Tried my waved Leek, but it felt to small, same with my Sebbie :( ... So...

Needs

3.3 to 3.65 Blade length.
No zytel, FRN, etc. G10 is ok.
Fast, smooth and easy to open.
Under $230.

Wants

3.45 Blade length.
Under $150.
Thin.
Decent steel.
Ergonomic.
 
Your kiddin right? Your 14 you shouldn't be carrying any weapons on you at all much less a knife. Stay in school, listen to your mother and don't be so disrespectful with the jerk it thing shes your mother which just goes to show why you shouldn't carry a weapon cause your immature, 14, a minor etc. etc. Man there should be an age limit on this crap here.
 
Whoops, that smiley icon on another forum I frequent is "Argggh" (based off of the fight the power fist, I assume). Second of all, I'm doing quite a good job in school right now, 5 AP classes. Third, my Mom isn't against knives, she just doesn't want me carrying one too large. Lastly, I don't know you, but based on your self righteous attitude, I believe I have more maturity and need for a knife than you do. How many times have you been robbed? How many gang shootings have happened right in front of you? How often have you ever considered you don't know everything? Before you make assumptions, get th whole picture first. Oh and by the way, my Mom wanted me to start carrying a knife for self defense, but she doesn't want it to be too large, just because the LEO in our area, are quicker to confiscate from law abiding citizens than the drug dealers on the corner.

Also, if you are planning some witty and ignorant response, please do so with proper grammar.
 
Lol, a 14 year old with a knife thwarting a robbery? Most likely at gunpoint? What possible good is any knife going to do you if a gang shooting goes down in your presence? Most likely thinking the way you do will get you killed. Hard to believe your mom "wants" you to carry a knife.
 
VANC, you are better off not carrying a knife. So if someone tries to jump you or rob you, what's the worst that can happen? Most likely, you'll just get beat up pretty good, but no major damage. If you pull a knife that, trust me, you don't know how to use, what's the worst that can happen?
-the knife can be turned on you
-they can pull a weapon of their own (knife, club, GUN!!!)

Little man, I don't know where you live, but there is NO REASON for a 14 year old to be carrying a weapon of any kind around. Hopefully it doesn't take you getting stabbed with your own knife to learn that. No offense...I'm just trying to look out for ya.
 
I don't think you can take AP classes when you are 14 at least not in NYS. You have to be a sophmore in 10th grade to take them. I don't belive for a minute that your mother wants you to carry a knife for s.d. and I don't for a minute belive that an LEO wouldn't confiscate any knife they found on you no matter the size. As for gang shootings well a knife will do you real good in that situation. So what I suggest is that this thread be closed as no good will come of it.
 
I missed the original format of the OP's post......I presume he had a "jerk it" icon in it.

I do not like that icon at all (I refuse to call it a smiley) as it's just stupid. But it seems misplaced to call someone using it being "childish" when it was put here presumably by adults in the first place.

Why not petition Spark to delete it entirely ?

Honestly, I don't care about your personal beliefs. I've drawn my knife for self defense twice, thankfully, I didn't have to actually use it. Secondly, I understand a knife won't help against a gun. Obviously. Now as I was saying, to me a knife is for last resorts. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. After having my jaw and three fingers broken with a 2 by 4, I feel that I have the right to carry a knife.

EDIT: longbow: If having this thread closed will give you some sense of victory, so be it. I simply asked for a recommendation. Deal with it.
abiggs: If someone is trying to kill you, why not fight back with all due force?
 
Look at the Kershaw Blackout. I have carried one every day for 2 1/2 years and it done well by me. I had been carrying a knife for eight years or so by the time I was 14. Of course that was in a different world back then. You could show your teacher your new knife with pride. No zero tolerance BS and all that crap that causes more trouble than it prevents.

I would agree that this post should be closed. I would like to say that there is a HUGE difference between a child carrying a small pocket knife as a tool, and a child asking a bunch of adults to suggest a knife to be carried and used as a weapon.
 
Whatever, however I would like to point out, that whether or not I am recommended a knife, I will wind up buying one, why not help me get the most bang for my buck?
 
vanc99 I'd seriously suggest you try very hard to stay away from those places where people jump others and beat them with 2x4s. I doubt at 14 you will be able to fight back with any sort of folder against those sorts that would be of that mindset. Surely you can try to stay away from trouble. A folder isn't going to give you an edge against a impact weapon and if anything will just inflame the attacker to beat you that much harder.
 
Let me give you a little background to that event jill jackson. I was riding the lightrail (above-ground subway), when 2 males, and 3 females boarded the train. One male walked over to me, and told me to give him my money. I did. He pocketed it and brandished a 2 x 4. He did the age old fake attack and then "haha you be a bitch" routine. I started moving towards the nearest exit, he struck me in the lower back, and proceed to kick and punch me. His 4 other buddies laughing. I fought back (bare in mind I'm not a small person 175lbs, 5'11'') but was overpowered and had the living sh-t beat out of me. He then threw my money he had taken at me, and got of the train with his buddies. By the way, there were at least 10 other people in the train car, and not a single person had the guts to admit to seeing anything happen.
 
He must have edited the jerk it icon out. I'm tellin everyone here and now this post is for the birds. 14 years old and recommending a knife to a kid for s.d. might even border on the illegal. This is without a doubt one of the most ludicrous posts I have seen on here. Oh yea you have a Sebbie which is in a consensus opionion here and else where to be about the BEST folder made today, commercially that is. Close it lock it and throw away the key.

Me either. To closely parallels the assault a couple of weeks ago Brooklyn when those girls beat on that fella. This is wierd for sure. No keepem sharp as there is no respect given here

you do realize this right? even if you had a knife, you still would have had your tail kicked. Just cause you have a weapon doesnt mean that you wont get you butt kicked. You are 14. Granted not small, but I seriously doubt that you would be taken seriously by anyone in a fight, knife or not. There is always someone who knows more than you, and knows how to impliment it. Just because you live in a crappy neighborhood, doesnt mean they dont also. You try to avoid the bad, the bad guys dont. Thats practice for them.

As for the "maturity" comments earlier in this thread, get a clue kid. You wont intimidate anybody on this site in anyway shape or form. No one here that frequents BF gives a crap about your maturity. The fact that you had to defend it (instead of letting "actions" define your maturity) says alot against you.

i would have given you a recomendation, but it isnt worth it.
