If you had had your knife I bet you'd not be here. He would have beat you 10x worse when you pulled it and even if you had been able to kill or injure this 2x4 packing thug(in the city) so he wasn't a beating you then what? There was more backing him up? What would they do?

Well....take down the leader and they might run.....but being trained in SD would be a better approach....Along with a GOOD KNIFE!!!

An Emerson Waved knife can be drawn in less than a second and is very intimidating when it is being used against someone. If a person pulled one on me I'd be surprised no matter how well trained I am.

jill jackson: I don't argue that sometimes you just can't win, however, suppose instead of a 2 x 4 it had been a knife, or a hammer? Then a knife might have saved my life. You can pick apart every little situation if you want, but I do NOT need you blessings/ permission to carry, and or use a knife in a emergency situation.

Any of the models with the little thumb "wave" are the ones that can be drawn in under a second. I have the commander model, but that might be just a little longer than what you were looking for. I'd recommend a frame locked knife, but the liner hasn't given out on me yet.

Hope some scumbags decide to be nice and leave you alone ?

Maybe we should adopt English style laws that protect the criminal in favor of regular folks.

That said , I think the folks on here advocating boxing or martial arts have a good point.

Everyone should be able to and have the means to defend themselves at all times.
 
rebeltf: I agree, MMA is a good idea. I'm on my schools wrestling team now, so making the leap to real MMA wouldn't be bad at all.

batosai117: The CQC-7 is looking pretty sweet, a bit shorter, but I think I could live with that. Do you think the half G10, half Ti is effective?

EDIT: I just saw the Police Sark, but it has liners...

Yes, the half Ti is very good, besides it is the frame locked version if it is in that particular make (half and half). The G10 is strong durable stuff which will hold it's own completely. Good luck and update on your choice, J.
 
i'm 15 and have been carrying a knife since i was 14 but i dont carry for self defense, i'll use it if my life depends on it. Granted if your claims are true and i was in your situation might have. Your best bet would be to run away, if possible, a knife versus a 2x4 might look good until the 2x4 nocks the knife from your hands and is used against you. Over in practical tactical i have seen numerous recomendations for batons, i nice heavy steel baton might give you an edge. I also have a hardtime believing your mom would recomend a knife for self defence and even if she did and the police confiscated your knife, which they surely will if you are 14 and saying "o its for self defence officer". Use that money and get yourself a nice utiliy knife such as a griptillian(cheape but a great knife). and if you carry edc use it for utility. Dont take any unessary chances, if you dont need to leave your home at a dangerous time stay in the house, keep your situational a wareness up and dont defend yourself with the knife unless your life is clearly in jeapordy.
 
^ The benchmade griptilian is a good knife :thumbup:. I carry that knife more than any other model besides my emerson commander.

Do you really think a knife would have got a 14 year old boy in a better situation in his case? I can't see where it would have done anything but make it worse. If they had wanted to kill him they would have and a knife would have ensured it.- That said I still can't see a guy in the city packing a 2x4 about to beat people.
 
I too carried a knife since about the age of 10. Mainly as a tool while camping and hiking or work. However, why dont you be smart and carry pepper spray or a tazer. It would be just as effective, if not more. And you wouldnt have to kill any body?

I have a question. What does being 14 have to do with anything? If he was 18 and in the exact same situation, would you still say that pulling a knife would be a bad thing?

I've been on forums since I was 14 and I was always looked down on for my age, regardless of where I went. Just don't like seeing it.

They saw him as a 5'11" young man who weighs 175 lbs. There was five of them with the intent of attack. He didn't know at the time that they were going to leave him be after they beat him down. If I was getting hammered with a 2x4 I'd swing that knife until I hit some part of that guy. Besides, he said he was trying to walk away from them and proceeded to head to the nearest exit, but they just felt like being a$$holes and attacked.
 
Tazers are illegal here, and pepper spray, I'm allergic to.

I just saw these to at knifeworks, Benchmade H&K Snody and the Benchmade Nitrous H&K Blitz... any opinions, particularly on the Blitz? I could always add a wave to the Blitz, I just love the looks and materials...

Well I don't know what he was doing, but he said what he said and I don't have any real reason to not believe him. He is a big boy after all, the 5'11" part would normally deter most people from attack anyways. That's taller than me, and even with training I wouldn't go pick a fight with someone bigger than me.

14 is in grade 9, so why not? That's when a lot of people first start drinking, trying drugs, and having sex. Being alone at night doesn't seem like a stretch, and even if there were another person or two, may not have helped.
