And why did I wait so long?!!! What an awesome quality knife. I did a bunch of reading before ordering and made sure I would know what a fake was etc. I decided on a Manix 2 because it is rugged enough to serve me well in any scenario I could possibly need a folding knife to perform some cutting in. The G10 handles are grippy and the knife has a substantial feel in my hand, which I like (I am a fixed blade type of guy). This blade is damn sharp from the factory. In fact I've already cut myself with it like an idiot (pic below). I love the fit and finish of the knife as a whole and the jimping all over is wonderful. The knife operates smoothly, but still a little stiff. I am sure it will wear in and be buttery smooth in no time. The only imperfection I could possibly find is the blade is not quite centered. That doesn't bother me, since it still has plenty of clearance and the lock up on this knife is amazing with zero, and I mean zero, blade play.

Anyhow, here are the pics of my first Spyderco:

Blade just a little off center

The clip is very nicely finished and rides great:

Jimping for days:

So good looking:

See what happens when you try to be one of the cool kids flipping the blade closed all quick and willy nilly. The tip nips you. This thing is shaving sharp out the box!

I am looking forward to my Spydie hanging with me for a long time. With CPM S30V and G10, I'm sure it will.

Congrats on the new blade she is a beauty I am trying to hold out for a Para 3 or Minuteman I think it is called. Never handled one but from what I have read most people that have them love them.

The Manix 2 is a solid choice as a first Spyderco. It has all. The Spyderco goodness and a well-rounded design.

Every story is better with pictures. I can feel the exuberance.

Congrats !
Brilliant knife, great company (here in my home state). The last knife I bought a week ago is a USA made Spyderco.
Be sure to check out Sal's sharpening video ; good stuff.

Thank you blade and wens. Yes I'm thrilled with my new knife. In fact, it's my only folder! I usually only carry fixed blades or multitools.

Good choice. The Manix 2 is a great knife.

I would also recommend picking up a Paramilitary 2. I love the PM2.

Wowbanger,
Will do. Thanks for the tip on the vid

Hyp,
I was seriously considering that one as well. Honestly I just liked the looks of the manix 2 more.

I love my manix 2 g10. It will take a while for the pivot to smooth out but once it does it is so smooth. Great choice

JDX,
Thank you. I am looking forward to it smoothing out over time. I've been messing with it non stop so it'll work itself out fast I'm sure haha

Congratulations on your first spyderco Cryptyc! Very nice looking folder. I have never owned/held a manix before but it has been on medium list for years now. Should probably bump it up to my short list, i always hear great reviews.

Spyderco is the company responsible for turning me to a full blown knife nutter. Haha

Thanks for sharing! I have had hundreds of knives, big Kershaw and ZT guy. Spyderco never really interested me much and I've never handled one. I'm not a fan of the shape of some of the blades, then a few days ago, I came across the Native 5 with blue G10 and S110v blade on ebay. It looks pretty fantastic and after a few days of drooling, I ordered one. Hope to have it by the weekend. The manix you bought looks a lot like the native, but I prefer EDC in the ~3" blade and 4" handle range. I can't wait to get it. It looks like a very quality piece. On the flip side, I handled a Benchmade nakamura 484-1 last week, the guy handed it to me, I was not interested in it at all based on the look/blade shape. After a few minutes of handling it, I could not put it down and went back the next day and bought it. What a fantastic little knife. Some knives call out to me by looks and some by quality feel and action. I'm hoping the Native has both!

The manix2 is my favorite knife. It should smooth out great. You could drop some oil on the pivot and it should smooth right out. As far as the centering. That is an easy fix. Loosen the screws open the blade and push it towards the side it is closest too while you tighten the screws back down. May have to do it a couple of times to get it just right but it should center right up. Seems a little counter intuitive pushing it towards the side its closest too but it works like a charm. Keep in mind you will break the Loctite so you may need to reapply. Or you could just leave it as is if it doesn't bother you. Skip the pm2 and get another M2 with s110v. They have skeletonized liners and are almost an ounce lighter than the standard without loosing any rigidity. Manix 2 is an awesome knife and they are rock solid as you've said. Enjoy!

marcus,
Yes you really should get that on your short list. It feels very solid. I read that people felt it was heavy, but honestly it's not.

DMS1,
I am with you on the looks part. It seems silly to some, but I can't carry a knife that I dislike how it looks no matter how smooth it is or well it functions. I got the manix because it didn't have that over exaggerated top hole area design like a lot of the other spyders I've seen. I hope you enjoy your knife when it arrives.

Lycosa,
I'm in the hole for sure. What a quality knife spyderco makes.

Great choice! The Manix was my first Spyderco as well. It really is a great knife. The Stretch is currently my only Spydie folder.

Since you're a fixed blade guy check out the Spyderco Street Beat. Great edc fixed blade.

luke,
Thanks for the kind words and tips on centering the blade. Honestly, it doesn't affect function and there's space all around the blade and liners with zero contact so I'm just going to let it be. If I ever swap out anything or decide to take it apart then I will take that opportunity to center the blade, otherwise it's staying.

jkwithawave,
Thank you. Honestly, I wanted this folder because I needed it to be able to be tossed in a pocket but also large enough to handle some rougher tasks. I have some nice small fixed blades that I pocket carry to, like the Tops MSK. I just wanted a bit more handle, but still wanted easy pocketability. I decided a rugged folder was needed, hence the Manix 2.

PNWJimbo and FMJackass,
Thanks guys. The Manix is a good looking devil, and as is my habit, I'm sure more spydies will be on the way soon hahaha.
