Well after getting my New KMG a month ago I finally got it up and running!

I got assigned to Jury Duty about 3 days after I got the grinder and the trial took 3 weeks!

So anyway the grinder is up and running with a 1.5 HP Leeson motor and a KBAC Variable Speed Drive. I think I may have a few adjustments I don't know how to do. Here are the things that may or may not be problems;

1. The belt rides pretty far to the inside on the Tracking Wheel when it is tracking properly on the 8" wheel or the Platen.

2. The two aluminum wheels on the platen are getting pretty hot to the touch after just a few minutes of grinding. Is this a problem? How tight is too tight for the grinding belt?

3. What speed should I use for my initial grinding of the plunge line and flat grind? I am measuring my RPM at the drive wheel.

4. Is a 40 grit belt good to start my initial grinds with?

Thanks,
Chris

I wouldn't worry about issue #1. That could be the belt. Or something could be a tad out of alignment. The machine isn't made from precision-squared components because it doesn't have to be. All that matters is what is going on at the business end.

You could make the belt track differently by shimming any of the wheels (or loosening the set-screw and moving the drive wheel down the drive shaft).

The wheels on my platen get real hot too.

It hasn't caused me any problem yet. I got my KMG two years ago.

Thanks, i should have thought of moving the drive wheel a little. I'll try that tomorrow.
