I got my first Benchmade!
Full size Griptillian, but in the H20 version, because the other option was D2, and i dont like rust.
So far its awesome!
Its blowing my Mini AK out of the water so far... (no "water" pun intended) :D
Obviously not my picture, but i had to put a picture in.

I still say the Grip. is the best knife Benchmade ever made.

I remember my first Benchmade, it was a Rukus 610. I still have it and use it occasionally. BM's are the only folders I carry now, that is until I finish my own.

Glad you like it. Could never warm up to the full size one, but I am a big fan of the mini

I have carried the same knife pretty regularly at work for the last half year. Definitely a winner.

Congrats on your new knife

OP, you do know that D2 isn't the rust monster people make it out to be, right? It's just 1% Cr away from being considered a "stainless" steel.

Congrats on the knife, but you sure do make a lot of "fluff" threads.
Usually, i do, but this one actually has a purpose. I had my other thread from a few days ago and i was talking about what i should get.
So, instead of updating a thread that has been more-or-less abandoned, i made a new one.
Plus, im just really excited about finally having a Benchmade. :D

And oh, about the D2, i've never used it, im just going by what others have said.
Ill have to remember that.

Love my full size Grip, that mini is just to darn mini for me, first Benchmade was a AFCK. As said before congrats, it won't be your last.

I sure hope to have more. I've never really liked the looks of them on the internet, but being in the store and checking them out, i wanted them all.

Crimson Tide ... +1.

Yes, your new Grip is a fine knife, but don't back away from D2.
One of the most famous knife-makers of all times, Bob Dozier (RIP), used D2 extensively if not exclusively. His knives are wonderful, and much sought after.

I just bought a NIB Spyderco Military in D2 several days ago on the EXCHANGE, and was delighted to get it.
Some folks also shy away from M4, which is a tool-steel and "can" rust, but the people with the Spyder Gayle Bradley knives report no problems that I'm aware of. Many owners say it's their favorite steel.

There are lots of fine steels these days, and also protectorants that you put on the blade if you're concerned.
Tool-steels can develop a patina if used to slice some acidic fruits and veggies, and then not rinsed/cleaned immediately after, but the patina actually looks nice and is NOT rust.

Anyway, sir, you have a fine knife and I hope you will enjoy it.

No, it doesn't have a purpose. Does it provoke interesting discussion? Does it educate? Does it introduce a new idea? No. I'm glad that you like your new knife, but you have to realize that there are hundreds of active members here who are always buying new knives. If every single one of them posted a new thread every time they were thinking about buying a new knife, and every time they actually got one (like you do), it would be impossible to have any kind of discussion here. I appreciate that you're at least trying to make some effort towards not spamming these boards as much (unlike the recently banned ChrisFarms), but the "read more post less" phrase applies very well here. The knowledgeable people on this board started by reading up and searching through the vast amount of information that bladeforums has to offer, not by posting as much as they could as quickly as they could.

Oh, and I've never had problems with D2 rusting.

Very nice choice on your first Benchmade and first Griptillian. I think a Griptillian should always be your first Benchmade. I emphasize first cause I'm sure it won't be your last.

Exactly summed my thoughts up.

I've Had More Issues With Rust On The Kershaw Bead Blasted Sandvik Steel Than D2, I've Owned Several D2 Knives And Have To Say It's My Favorite Steel, Along With s30v, Etc.

Anyways, Congratulations On Your New Knife. The Grip Is A Great Knife, I Really Did Love Mine, But I Eventually Ended Up Trading It For Something I Thought Was Better. But That Was Strictly In My Opinion Of Course.

Your Next Knife Should Be A Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Seriously, It's An Awesome Knife, A Guy Even Wrote A Song About It.

Anyways, Enjoy Your Knife And Use The Hell Out Of It.

Aw, I missed it!

bladeboss, congratulations! I'll echo what others have said about D2 -- that it doesn't rust that easily. In fact, over the years it's become one of my favorite folder steels.
