We finally had a break in the weather and it was a good day to get outside and fend off the cabin fever. I took my flyrod and my woodland special and went to one of my spots. I didn't get too far from home today. The winter really makes it tough to fish. There is a lot of snow and ice making it difficult to trudge through and limits how close you can get to the water.
It started to cool down in the afternoon. I stopped for a bit to get out of the wind and made a nice little hand warming fire. Not many things beat sitting by a fire.
Winter fishing does pose hazards. There are places that freeze over the river then as it warms, the river flows underneath leaving water filled caverns covered by thin ice. Also, there are ice dams. If this one would have let loose, I wouldn't have been able to get back across without walking a long ways.
Winter fishing does have it's rewards though. It's one of the best times to catch really big trout.
Sorry, I've yet to figure out how to post big pics in the thread on this forum.
