WORST BIRTHDAY EVER

I think you should have bought it someplace else. Why did you choose to buy it there for that price?

David

Usually before I buy anything, I try to research current prices. Can't you return it?
Matt

Angies was the only place i know of to buy knives.
I'm obviously not going back there so as of now i have no place to shop
:(

Jazzman: needless to say i learned my lesson.

Anybody in central ontario know where to buy knives?

Um, I know I'm stating the obvious but...you are connected to the internet. There are plenty of online dealers that have prices way better than what you paid.

Unfortunately, in Toronto and area, you can expect stores to ask C$90-C$130 for it. So you did get charged a little on the high side, but not stellar. Upsetting, I know, but the knife is well worth it. You could have ordered one from USA for nearly 2/3 of what you paid, but you would also be risking the customs giving you trouble, they stopped by Cricket in September for crying out loud. So overall, I think purchasing it here was actually less hassle, although a little more expensive.

At least the people at the store you went to actually KNOW the knife. My first Spyderco was a Native from a store on King St., downtown Toronto, C$96 with tax, years ago. I actually called another store on the same street, asked if they had a Native, plain edge, they said they did. It was a nice trip, I was living on the far north of the city, and King St. is almost on the lake. So I get to the store, look around the display box, and ask one of the store owners. They happily whip out the serrated Delica out of the display box, say it is a Native and let me handle it. Wow. I tried not to smile, said no thanks (to their great and rather obvious displeasure for being troubled to open the display case for nothing), and went to another store a few doors down who did have one. So I got it. And of course that started the need of a Sharpmaker, and since I was in the store already (S&R Knives), I helped myself to a Ladybug, and it all went downhill from there... :D

So, don't feel terrible about it. Native is a great knife. I now have over two dozen Spydies, and a Native is still one of the favourites. Sure you could have gotten one a little cheaper from US, or another store in Canada, but shipping charges would have eaten away some of it, and if our beloved Canadian customs decided to call it a weapon it would have cost you a LOT more. I won't even dare buy a knife without an adjustable pivot pin from across the border anymore.

Just got myself one from walmart for $43.65:D I know that a lot of people dont like walmart but its a hell of a deal.
Wade

Canadian and US Walmarts are entirely different beasts. In Canadian Walmart you will not find ammo or any reasonable selection of knives. Spyderco Natives in the US Walmarts are a pilot program, I believe, to try out how it will work out. In Canadian Walmarts you'll find Bucks (including 110 and 119), Gerbers (including International AR 3.0) and maybe a couple of multitools, that's about it.

As bad as you may feel...........its only money, and not very much at that.

Think about the guys in Iraq making the world a safer place and it will put your problem in perspective! :)

Happy birthday. Think about it like this, "Hey, I have a great pocket knife!"

Try not to worry about the price. We all live and learn about knife prices. Some are good deals, some are not.

I've been reading about inflated knife prices in other countries. I have two Natives. The first was a USA-made First Generation "Pilot Test Run" in 440a for $22. The second is a Japanese-made Native III with VG-10 that I bought NIB on a knife forum sale area for $30.

So yeah, I think you took one in the shorts. Do you at least get good deals on Grohmann knives up there?

Maybe I'm missing something.

1. You had the "hots" to purchase a specific knife.

2. You purchased the knife, knowing what the purchase price was.

How does that make it the retailer's fault ?

That's like someone watching an elephant drop a fresh pile of ka-ka on the sidewalk. That same someone walks down the sidewalk and steps squarely in the warm, steaming pile. . . . .and then blames it on their shoes.

Are you interested in purchasing a "bridge ?" It's cheap ! :D

I know what you're saying GigOne. He should have shopped around first, and techinically the store didn't "rip off" anyone.

But at the same time, this is the forum for applying Yeahs or Nays to buyers, sellers, and businesses. A store with sky-high prices deserves a Thumbs-Down, whether or not the buyer fell for it.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

The intent of my comments has nothing to do with him shopping around first.

And you're correct, my first point is that he was not "ripped off."

Then we should give the thumbs down on most retailers. Helll, the vast majority of their products are marked up 30 - 60%.

I don't know what the pricing structure, overhead, etc. is of the dealer in question, so I'm not able to nor willing to make an uninformed decision on the prices he/she charges.

My second point is pretty simple.

This is your area to tell about your experiences (Good or Bad) with dealers, sellers, and individuals you've bought, sold, and traded with.

I don't see where buyers remorse fits the description / intent of this forum.

As consumers we have the option of saying yea or nea in the purchasing decision. Self-inflicting oneself with their own sword and then screaming "FIRE" is absolute. . . .well. . . .ka-ka !

Would like to add more, but have to run. . . .

Look at it this way; You buy a $500 custom and put it in the safe for a month or two. Something passes through your radar and you just have to own it but you are $300 short. You put your $500 custom on the market for $500, no one bites. You reduce it to $400, then $350. I buy it at $350 and you get your new toy with $50 to spare.

That's the $50 extra you paid for the Spyderco............................

Maybe next year you won't be such a whiner. Nobody held a gun to your head and made you buy it did they? Have you got any clue how bad some other people's birthdays are? Good grief this is either some 14 year old or a troll.
