for far too long now i have gone bush with out a camera, or had to rely on others to bring them.

soooo, from your experience what is a nice light WATERPROOF digital camera, that takes pics only (no video or editing or anything like that. Just basic point and shoot?

on a budget too, this CANNOT cut into my knife budget or beer funds!!!

Cheap is relative....

How about the Pentax Optio W30? It will run you about $300, but is completely waterproof, point and shoot, 7.1 megapixels, and takes fantastic photos.

Just switch to buying Keystone for a couple weeks and you'll recoup your money. :barf:

Why does it need to be waterproof?! That is going to add considerably to your cost, especially when you can get a decent camera for about $150.

I tend to hike in the pissing rain, plus i fish lot, so underwater (1 - 2') fishy shots would be nice. I learned my lesson about getting waterproof equipment, after my binocs fogged up from being used in the rain.

Unless another company has released something recently the Pentax is the only choice. I don't have one, but have had other Pentax "WR" film cameras. They are durable and waterproof. I'd still keep it in a Ziplock bag while packed.

I have an Olympus Stylus 770 SW. It is waterproof to 33ft (jumped in quite a few rivers and swimming pools with it),shockproof to 5ft, freezeproof to 14 degrees F, and crushproof to 220lbs of pressure. I can only attest to it being waterproof and shock proof, have yet to test it's other abilities... 7.1mp, takes pretty decent pictures. Olympus usually would not be my first pick for a digital camera, I prefer sony and canon, but the rugged specs on this camera sold me and I'm pretty happy with it. Again, stingray is right you can get a great camera for around $150, but if you want a rugged waterproof (not just resistant) camera I'll vouch for the Olympus. They have around four different models of waterproof cameras varing in price.

Pentax isn't the only choice (and not the best imo). Olympus has been selling waterproof cameras for years. I recently bought the miu 850sw and I am very pleased with it. The 1030sw is even better, although more expensive.

Waterproof shouldn't matter, if you take pictures in the rain they are gonna be kind of gloomy, wet, drab looking anyways. Stick with the big boys, Canon and Nikon!
