A few weeks ago, I had a email from my Dojo mailing list, a friend of my teacher also had a "wilderness school", all 3 instructors are Tom Brown's student.

So I decided to take the class: 2 days, shelter, water, fire and basic food covered.

I really had a lot of fun, still no fire from the bow & drill, but I'm really close, and now I know what I was doing wrong, wich is not possible with an online tutorial.

I hope they will put the pics online soon so I can share. I learned a LOT, online knowledge is good, but if you have the chance to take a class like this, do it. Next one they give is a tracking class, and I will be there for sure.

And before you ask, I did hesitate on wich knife to bring, and I finally chose my Ontario RAT-3 in D2, and beated the crap out of it. It took everything I gave to it and asked for more. Believe me, a few guys I met there will soon have a RAT on their belts ;)

Sounds good cybrok. Glad you liked your adventure and learned a bunch. I agree that it is easier to have a technique shown to you and instructor correct you while you are performing than trying everything in isolation. Keep at it with the bow drill, you'll get it!

Sounds like you had a great time, and learned a wealth of information. I am actually thinking of taking a small tracking class. It isn't from any major people, but it is a class none the less. Just need to find the paper I have about it.

Good luck on the bow and drill fire as well
