I had to put down one of my pets today.

I feel your loss. About two months ago I had to put down my best buddy. She had just turned 19 and was going down fast. I got her when she was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.

Here she was in her favorite position:

She even shared my interest for knives:

I'm a pretty stoic guy, but when we had to take her for that last trip to the vet I cried like a baby. 19 years is a LONG time to have a four legged family member.

Sorry for your loss, had to put down or friend of 17 years this April, my condolences. Hardest thing I ever had to do in 48 years.

Sorry to hear that. A couple of years ago I had to put my boxer to sleep (terminal kidney and pancreas failure). Even knowing that it was the best for him, it was hard. For the moment at least, I've decided not to have another.

So Sorry for your loss.... I had to put down my 16 year old pitbull. He was such a gentle soul, I cared for him in his old age and it was one of the toughest things i've ever had to do. Stay strong my friend... This cartoon is a gentle reminder of why we love our K9 beasts.

Be well

His name was Sloan and one of my wife's favorite animals. His name is Scottish for warrior and for that I post a little remembrance of him, we've actually had a lot of friends whose pets passed on in the past year not sure what was going on with 2013 or if that is just what the fates decree.

"The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the way of the samurai."
-From the Hagakure or Way of the Samurai.

It's always painful to have to go for that last visit to the vet.
Remember the great times you & your wife had with your cosmic companion and be greatful for that gift.

It is really tough. Last year my cat passed. Who I got from the pound 14 years ago. You know for a spell afterwards sometimes you aren't thinking and expect them to pop out from the corner of your eye how they normally do. It didn't happen that way this time but I did that with my cat for almost 6 months. She used to kill Big Macs and it would crack me up when every so often I would bring her one maybe twice a year.

My 12 year old Black and White cat named Oreo passed away peacefully on his own from cancer back in the summer. It was very difficult, but the timing of his death was of his own will, and had to accept natures fate. He was an excellent cat, gentle, easy going and never once made any mess, he always used the litter box.

Now my 19 year old orange striped cat Jake had a diagnosis of cancer which is a lump on his tail just above the rectum. First thought it was an abcess but the vet said it is a cancerous mass that cannot be removed due to how close to the base of his tail together with his age. Its been there for a couple of months now and so far it doesn't bother him. I ask myself why 2 cats in one year?

Exactly!
For us it was two bearded dragons, we got that 6 months apart. They were actually my wife's first reptiles, as we keep a bunch of them and are involved with the reptile community.

Last year was my cat Magic who I had forever, she must have been 17 or so. She was hyperthyroid the last few years and had wasted away slowly as she was on medication. During her last two or three months it began to deteriorate quickly so I had to put her down. I was actually angry at myself that I didn't do it a month sooner as I wasn't certain if she was suffering or in discomfort.
