I hate how most flippers are being built!

Use the flipper and the thumb stud at the same time. I do it all the time works fine. If ya can't get comfortable doing that. ....go old style and open with two hands...by pinching the blade spine area. Works on some knives.

This^

I LIKE having the option of slow controlled opening vs high speed all the time every time.If I have a flipper with no studs or hole,in a public setting(conditions vary widely),I'll open with two hands. No big deal.

how can use it if there's no stud?!

I already kinda answered this, or so I thought.

Two handed. Put one hand on top of the spine, if ya can't pinch spine. Put other hand to push the flipper up very gently. Once spine is cleared from scales...pinch and raise open. Go slowly. Im doing it now and its pretty simple and looks like im opening a traditional. Do when needed in areas where flip only opening is a concern. Problem solved. Sorry I wasn't more detailed.

Yeah it takes away one hand opening.....but if ya live where having to open two handed is required for hassle free use.....only buy flippers with combined thumb
studs or consider other knives. Last option I got for ya is custom. Can get what ya want.:) Yeah I know not perfect....but it is what it is.

I like some flippers, but not very many. I really don't like the type where the flipper sticks way out or is sharp in the closed position. And I also prefer non-AO.

Jim

I agree 100%, I like very few flippers, the kershaw ones like on a skyline or my shallot are the only ones I don't think look horrible, most literally stick out like a sore thumb. I just don't like what it does to the lines of the knife (especially when closed and there's a huge protrusion on one side).

Also love the one on my wife's kershaw Chive, if more knives had flippers like that I would be more open to them.

Buck Vantage:

  • Small flipper (some say too small, not I)
  • Deployment hole
  • Pinchable blade
  • After a quick tune-up, it flips great

The BUCK vantage series is a well built flipper.A bit of a small flipper but very workable. If they made a frame lock version,I'd buy three!

I don't flip knives in front of cops!
It was just an example :D

Some knives can't be pinched because, as i said before, the blades are or are almost entirely hidden insinde the handle.
The new Boker Kwaiken Flipper for example.

I apreciate the tips on deploying it half way Cereal Killer:thumbup:
Sounds like you might be using the wrong style of knife all together. Whatever happened to this? Looks like you changed your mind suddenly?
