Yesterday after work, I had to go to the courthouse in downtown Tampa to take care of a traffic ticket. (I couldn't pay it over the phone or online) Well Twiggs street was absolutely packed with tons of people and nowhere to park. Cops were writing citatiations and pulling people over constantly, so instead of getting another parking ticket, while trying to pay for this one was a very real possibility.

I decided to park about 10 blocks from the courthouse and walk. As soon as I got to the entrance I glanced over at the doors and saw a pic of a pistol with a circle and a line through it. It was then I remembered I still had my H.E.S.T. on me.

So back to the truck to stow it and the surefire flashlight away it was.

I always used to forget in airports, and before 9/11 I was able to always get through. They would either let it go, or measured it. The width of a hand or 4" was usually the limit. I did have to get out of line to mail one knife back to the house though.

Anyone else forget when NOT to carry a knife?

My friend and I went to set up a business tax ID with the IRS. Neither of us thought about the fact that it was in the local Federal Building. He had an Emerson CQC-10 and I had my Tyrade. Luckily, they let us store them in a locker instead of making us walk back to the car. We did get searched quite thoroughly, though.

Ya I hate having to go into any federal building. If I can't carry my knife in with me, I usually don't go. If it's somewhere with light security (like a theme park or state fair) I'll just clip it to my waistband.

yeah I forget all the time. I clip it to my pants behind my belt buckle. so when they wand me they think its the buckle. Works great at concerts, and NFL games would not try that at a court house lol...

couple weeks ago i was back from hiking trip, and in Wiena airport,i didnt check in my backpack in right place(guess i was still in mountains )i just kept walking through customs area, and when i put my pack under x-ray,i got some really concerned looks :) ...i had 2 folders(GEC and Tenacious),one fixed blade and Leatherman Wave, along with 2 x 1.5 lit Sigg bottles, some gadgets cargo seemed mighty suspicious on x-rays screen,
and guess what...i asked if i can i go back and check the backpack on right spot, and they let me do it,
exit from customs area-checking in and back..
 for Wienna airport security(from my point of view)
hope i explained properly , cause English is not my language

I buried a knife in some mulch across the street from the courthouse while paying a traffic ticket once. It was a Gerber paraframe so I wasn't too worried.

There have been many a days where I've had to hike back to the car to "disarm". It's annoying as all crap to have to go back and forth and back and forth and back again!

Now that is funny because I was actually looking for a place in the bushes to hide mine in, but there was just way too many people around. But I sure thought about it.lol

I did the same thing at airports before the incident. Worked every time.

In NC it's illegal to carry a knife on the property of an educational institution. I've forgotten to remove my EDC folder from my pocket when picking up my daughter from school. My standard policy is that if I'm leaving from home I leave the knife there, but if I'm out and about, I bring it and leave it in the car. If I forget I have it, though, I simply stand there with my hand over my pocket, looking up while whistling...

I had to stash my Tasman Salt in some bushes outside of PNC Park before a Pirates game (don't laugh, I know they suck). It was still there when I came back.

Had jury duty a few months ago; managed to remember to remove my full size Doug Ritter, backup Chive and SAK before heading to the courthouse. Didn't think about
the Utilikey until I parked the car..would have been confiscated for sure.

Forgot I had my knife on me once when going to watch a hockey game. I usually remember to toss it in the glove box before going in, but I forgot once and was stopped at the security checkpoint. One of the guys I was with had a point and shoot that I guess security thought looked too much like a SLR, so he got stopped too. Anyway, it was just a quick run back to the parking lot to drop both off in the car.

I had to get a new copy of my social security card. Went to the Federal Building, realized I had my Case trapper and my Boker toothpick with me. Luckily, there was a barbeque joint across the street (a small brick building that seems a bit out of place in downtown Ft. Worth.) the person behind the counter agreed to keep them behind the counter until i got done. They said it happens all the time.

I went in for jury duty and security wouldn't even let the SAK classic I had clipped to my key ring in the building. I went outside and stashed it in a potted plant. It was still there when I came out 6 hrs later.

I gave my girlfriend a small lock-back to carry in her purse in case she ever needed it. I dropped her off at the courthouse the other day and went to work. When I saw her later in the day she told me that she had completely forgotten about it being in her purse and that the security officer wouldn't allow her to enter with the knife. She ended up throwing it away in a nearbye trash can. But it's OK, it was only five dollars at a swapmeet=/

I keep one in the truck just in case I forget. :)
That's what I do. I usually keep a couple folders in the car for this reason. Forgetting a knife gives me the same feeling as forgetting my wallet.

What I meant was, the times when I have a folder on me but shouldn't. Like when entering the courthouse. :)
