I hate this forum ;)

Forget DMT Go EZLAP unlike dmt the exlap is just like an oil stone only it is metal with diamond grit. Use water. Does not have the holes like the dmt and they are solid metal and in my experience they work much better.

Hope this helps. Of course everyone has there likes and dis-likes I just happen to like EZLAP no offense to those DMT,ers out there.

And on that griptillian I have been looking at them and wishing. But like you I have bought so many knives I have to let the dust settle a bit. I am also a member of Candlepowerforum and I like small led lights that can blast a beam three hundred feet or more. So don't go there LOL If you do you will not be albe to say I did not warn you LOL :o

Looks like you haven't looked at DMT lately ;)

As some have said, DMT is perhaps not better, but it is different.

I have the stock Sharpmaker and use it once in a while but usually prefer the DMT stones, or just using the Sharpmaker rods freehand (for touch ups).

The only disadvantage I see with the stock Sharpmaker is the inability to remove much material quickly (for a re-profile, or serious edge restoration). I hear that the diamond rods (as an add-on to the stock kit) take care of this "problem".

In the end I like having many different sharpening mediums. My mood changes like the weather, and having many toys to play with is more fun.

Long time lurker,

...blah, blah, blah...

So while we are at it, I've heard a lot about these DMT sharpening stones...supposedly better than this spyderco sharpmaker i've got...any thoughts?

Hey, welcome to the sickness! :D

If you get the DMT, get the diamonds. They work better on the harder steels like S30V, D2, ZDP-189, etc. I have the Aligner Deluxe Diamond set and for a newb, they work great. Helps guide you with the angles. They won't give you the polished edges I've seen posted here but it does give you a great "working" edge. I have a Razor Sharp Edgemaking System paper wheels set and a variable-speed 6" bench grinder coming soon though. I think I can graduate to those now. :p

Oh, and one more thing, we here at BF want/love/need pics!!! :D

Well in the past month have bought
ZT 200
Emerson CQC8
Benchmade Mini Rukus
Benchmade Mini Barrage
Kershaw Blur
because of this site. :)

Welcome to the forum. Better make you an appointment to the closest plasma center. I use DMT stones and think they work excellent. Only ever used that piece of crap Lansky diamond rip-off kit and oilstones otherwise, so I have not experienced other systems. I heard the Sharpmaker is an awesome tool. Other than that-invest in a strop.

freq18hz welcome to the forum. when it really gets bad you average 3 new knives every week.dmt & spyderco are both great tools & i use both in my sharpening. think of it this way , they compliment each other.

I did 6 a few weeks ago...

I'm up to almost 40 knives and my fiends think I'm crazy...

I have about 200 knives (I don't have time to count them all lol). Since signing up for my gold membership, I've bought a Spyderco Spyderfly, a Kimura II, a Frank Beltrame stag stiletto, two khukuris and some handmade knives from Mongolia (!). I buy lots of knives anyway, but BF has made things worse. lol

Oh yeah--also having a custom sheath made by Dave Cole, a knife/sheath maker from FL I met on here. Can't wait to get it. :D He does nice work!

holycrap........this could be bad...cars...then watches...then lights...now blades...what's next? Guns and swords?

And while supportive, I should say, my GF thinks knives are the most boring thing ever.
Can't blame her. What's odd though, is that well...let's just say all in all she doesn't find them a turn off. =)

Perhaps she feels safer? *shrug*

Damn this forum! I knew this would happen....!!!!!
I feel your pain, brother! Probably well over half the money I have spend on knives and outdoor gear in the last year can be directly attributed to this forum. It's like crack! :grumpy:

Not that I enjoy seeing another fellow human being suffering, but it's so nice to see that I'm not the only one who curses this money pit called BF :D.

since finding this site Ihave aquired 3 BM,s, a Rat 1 folder, I spydy tenacious, and whole bunch of less expensive knives to practice sharpening on. I just got a strop, and a belt sander, hopefully getting other various sharpening goodies soon as well,,,I really thinking on getting some of the diamond stones in the future,,yeah this place is heck on a budget, lol :D

You are doomed - just let go and enjoy the ride.

I smell a trip to Striderland, then Sebenzaville and maybe a quick stop at Hinderer Village in your future.

Not only have I been on this trip, but I sell maps and give guided tours!

Long time lurker, just made my first post a few days ago.

Bought my first benchmade knife a week ago.

And then another.

And then a CRKT knife.

And then another CRKT.

And today I just purchased a Sypderco Delica, and another mini griptilian.

And I'm about to press BUY on a fallkniven.

Damn this forum! I knew this would happen....!!!!!

So while we are at it, I've heard a lot about these DMT sharpening stones...supposedly better than this spyderco sharpmaker i've got...any thoughts?

BTW to anyone who saw my previous posts, this griptilian is absolutely razor sharp from the factory. :)

My girlfriend bought me a Fallkniven S1 for Valentines day , it is one hell of a nice knife , excellent reviews.

Check out an S1 , I do not think you will be disappointed.

I do not necessarily think it is about having money. Part of the fun for me is trying to find the model(s) I want at a discounted price.

For instance - I bought a 0500 blem off this forum for half of what the "unblem" model sells for. I also bought a JYDII blem for 1/3 of what they retailed for when first released.

I wanted a Benchmade 13100 Hardtail when they first came out, but the prices were sky high. I watched and waited until they were out a while and got one at a great price.

I monitor a few of the more popular e-store websites - they are always running specials.

I have my name on an e-mail list for several of the e-stores also - so I am getting notices when they are offering some special incentive, especially around the holidays.

I think the trick for someone who does not have a lot of discretionary income is to be patient and disciplined. Try to avoid the impulse buys. I wasted a LOT of money in the erly stages of my collecting days.

Since joining BF:
1 - Gossman PSK
1 - Fiddleback Hunter
1 - Fiddleback Bushie
1 - Laconico Kep-Muk
1 - JK Fire kit
And still looking !
