I Hate This Knife

I would prefer if the blade didn't have the ricasso/dropped edge thing going on. I would like to have seen the blade go straight into the handle. I think it would've given the look more coherence. I imagine this style lends itself to being more of a chopper though.
Another way to go would be to lose the tsuba altogether. I really like the use of copper here.

Beautiful piece of work. The blade finish gives it added charactor, nothing wrong with that.

I actually really like the tsuba. It is not only well styled but very well done and provides a nice contrast to the copper. The photo with the tsuba and seppa shows how nice that is.

Nice knife. Love the woodwork and the overall quality of construction.

Here's a few in-progress shots of this build.

This is one of the forged copper "spacers" being flattened:

A bit of hand sanding:

Getting there:

Dry fitting:

Front ferrule rough-fitted:

Here's all the front-end pieces ready to assemble:

More to come.......

Rough up the sheath, patina the fittings, replace the lace with leather thong and you'll have a looker!

Ha!.... just messing, Blue. I like the knife... it's all personal taste. I see great workmanship.

I'm no pro on that style, but I think it turned out great. That type of knife tends to all blend together to me in a fuzzy cloud of uppity jargon and boring similarity. Your version stands out as having some character and style of it's own. I like the heck out of it, especially the forge scale. God help us if we all start making the same knives! :)

I think it turned out great, even if it's not your favorite bit of craftsmanship. The customer pays the bills, so as long as he's happy with it, you've done your job.

Here's the final installment:

Soldering the front ferrule:

Cleaned up and ready for handle fitting

Starting the rear ferrule:

Carving the wood:

Rear ferrule/butt cap finished:

This shows the copper sheath collar along with the last of the damascus bar I made(bottom of the two). This will be forged into the face cap for this ferrule to complete the sheath collar:

Mouth of the sheath/saya just prior to mounting the cap:

I went "Nick Wheeler" on the fit for this assembly! So many parts and contact surfaces that had to be flat a level...... I spent a lot of time on this aspect of the build. A final check for a good clean fit.

Looooooong way from this:

Cool. I went back to that other thread because I had a blade bend down in the quench and had to refresh my knowledge.

Good to see these photos here. There's some really good work going on.

I like it. I love the blade geometry. Not too much that I would change if I ordered one for myself (besides letting you remove the etched oxides:D ).

Well if the customer is happy then you have to let it go, but the knife has possibilities so I say make another and do it the way you want. That way you will be happy too. I do sell the knives I make but I have never been asked to make one to order
