I hate you all...lol...

Hey Nick, the gift-giving season is coming up! Give him a nice quality USA Made folder to "nudge" him even more in the right direction. If you need ideas on a particular type of knife, we can help with that too!

Cheers!

Yeah I can understand being careful with the money etc for normal people when they are saving up for something.

But like you said being frugal just to be frugal and if they really do have money etc that is just pathetic. I think it's a sickness or something.

I agree, you shouldn't blow tons of money that you can't afford, but being a cheapskate turns me off. You can't take a penny with you when you die. ;)

If you are becoming a "knife snob", you're doing it wrong.

The point is never to learn so you can look down on someone else or their knife. It is always to learn so you enjoy your own purchases more.

Knarfeng,

I think that you misunderstood what I wrote. I wasn't looking down on him, but I just don't find any interest in cheap knives anymore. In a past life, I had the "more knives, the better" attitude, and I've moved into the "a few good ones" attitude.

I was just being a bit sarcastic with the snob comment.

There are good quality knives in different price ranges, but generally the better ones start around $90 or so because of the better steels etc.

There are some excellent values in quality knives in the $60 range like the Spyderco Endura 4 and CS Recon 1.

You guys are 100% correct. My father in law is a sportsman, hunter, outdoorsman, and I am fortunate that he and I share that passion. We normally talk guns/hunting/knives, but I just can't convince him to buy "good stuff"...he is always on the cheap side of everything. He considers knives as throw-away items.

Good comments though...

Save some cash and buy him a nice knife for Christmas. He will be stoked and like u even more lol

Ya know....I started this thread to be a smart @ss, but honestly, its made me think a bit. Maybe I just need to buy him a good knife for Christmas with the hope that he will use and appreciate it. Hmm....

Buy him a small Sebenza if the $$'s okay and include a card that says "Christmas 2010" - he'll be more apt to hang on to it. Then he'll turn into a knife snob too!
