I have ~$500 to drop on a folder, what would you recommend?

I've had mine since October 24th. It's one of the absolute smoothest bearings flippers you'll handle.

Uses loose ceramic bearings. Ceramic detent and ceramic bead at the end of the clip for easy extraction. Incredible milling on the titanium. It has a very narrow profile for a flipper with a 3.95" blade. Weighs just 5 ounces. Disappears in the pocket. Guard can be used to open it using your thumb.

Great design and execution. Excellent quality.

Oh, wow. That does sound really tempting... Based on this, I'd say I'm between this, the Shirogorov Hati, and the Spyderco Rassenti collab coming up. Also, perhaps that Cold Steel 4Max.

Me personally, would add a few to that number and try out the rockstead.
Curious about the crazy bevel they offer.

I'd love to, but I'm kinda tied to that $500. Wouldn't feel comfortable spending any more, haha.

Steelcraft Kwaiken is about as smooth my Shirogorov F95s.

Spyderco Nirvana has no estimated drop date but it should be an excellent integral frame folder.

Cold Steel 4Max should also be great after all the delays and high price but it weighs 9.2 ounces!

Oh, really? How's the heat treat on the S35vn working out for you, by the way?
And dang, 9.2 ounces? That's probably enough to knock it off my list.

Great blade, very sharp and good edge retention so far. I would've paid extra for M390 over S35VN but it's no slouch.

Sounds like it's moving quickly up my list, then. Unless another hati pops up soon for about $500, I'll probably go with the Kwaiken.

I'm going to have to throw in a vote for the hati. It has been the only knife in my pocket for the past 5 months. I occasionally carry my f95 also which does have the most sublime action I've experienced. I'm a carpenter and use my knife each day and love the profile and cutting abilities of the ffg blade. The hati is coinciderably lighter than the f95 and is as easy to take apart and clean as a sebenza, it also is smoother and faster on washers than the majority of bearing knives I've owned. That kwaiken is one of the most tempting knives I've seen for a while though. Good luck.

Whatever you buy make sure that it is meeting your main parameters. If you are interested in actually cutting things then think about edge geometry, blade thickness etc. Resale value helps so keep that in mind.

I have held and used my fair share of knives. Hinderers, sebenzas, striders, cold steel, spydercos, benchmades, kershaws, brous blades, emersons, and zero tolerances. But I have to say of all the knives, Id recommend a newer pivot umnumzaan from Chris reeve. Seriously, you will not be disappointed

Pre-order a 4-Max, use the remainder for an Edge Pro Apex.
Smart,, you can get so caught up looking to spend all your budget on a knife,, when you can get a ZT with Elmax, and still have money left over for a great sharpening system.
