I have $70 what do you recommend

Benchmade Mini Griptilian 556. It's a fun knife to play with, good looking, plus good quality! Can't go wrong with that purchase

I have one already, I am not really impressed, my Cryo came sharper from the factory and it holds an edge better.
I was going to recommend the mini grip as well. Mine was pretty dull with an uneven edge grind from the factory, but after reprofiling it it became one of my favourite knives. Great edge retention for my EDC purposes. Perhaps the blade you're comparing it to has a different profile.

Otherwise, perhaps a small fixed blade like the ESEE Candiru or Izula?

If you are looking at the BK2 you might as well concider your options. You could get an Ontario RD4 in 5160.

From what I understand, the BK2 is too heavy for hiking - it's like a brick. I think the BK-16 or BK-14 eskabar would be better to carry while hiking.

Ok it is down to:

BK2 and Gerber LMF II

I want to use it for hiking.

Then, you really need the LMF ii, mainly because I want to get rid of mine which hasn't been used. But really, between those two...the BK2 is the way to go.

This is true...I sold my BK2 not because it wasn't a good knife, but because I had no need for such a heavy knife. The BK16 is a good size, but I found the grip rather uncomfortable and I'm actually in the middle of making it more comfortable and adding my own scales. For hiking and MTB'ing...I carry a Falkniven F1 in my bag. It's a bit more expensive than what the OP is considering, but IMO, it's well worth the money.

*Spyderco^ :D

Haha but seriously the BK2 is definatley a beast, like carrying a piece of firewood (ok a small piece of firewood) on your side, I would look at the Ontario Rat 3, great for everything, yes everything........
