Makes sense as the mountainous NW often thinks like the "South" over the "North".
I realize that an English word can have any meaning that a population gives to it. But when you consider the origins of "soda pop" and thus the modern morphing into soda or pop. Calling the beverage soda is like calling the drug aspirin as simply "Pain reliever". Soda is a beverage that hosts a variety of different beverages whereas pop is just pop.
