At this point I've probably got half a dozen different 710s. I agree with some of the posts above that everyone ought to own a 710, at least long enough to give it a fair trial. There's a good reason (lots, actually) why this knife is still in the BM catalog a dozen years after it was introduced, with essentially no changes other than blade steels during that period.
It's a little pricey compared to the regular D2 version, but you might want to consider the KW dealer limited edition in M390 stainless. M390 has been getting rave reviews from various testers.
JN definitely has it right. I waited a long time to get my 710 knives, as I was completely hooked on the Military. Truth is that I am still hooked on the Military, but I am also hooked on the 710 as well. Both knives are sufficiently different in their own right, that I don't see a duplication of features. JN also mentioned the M390 versions and if you can swing it, I highly recommend these knives. I have never seen a steel that can take a mirror edge and hold it like M390: truly a super steel. Not that there is anything wrong with D2.
