Hi all,

First post here so hope I'm in the right section.

I'm looking for a good EDC folder but I can't find anything that's exactly to my needs.

Said needs:

• Quality steel
• Flipper/assisted opening
• Locking
• Deep pocket carry
• Tip-up carry capable
• Reasonably wide blade
• Plain edge (prefer a drop or spear point, and nothing too tacticool!)

I will consider non-flippers as long as opening is easy and positive.

Budget is up to, say, $300. Getting blades imported to this side of the pond from the States is ruinously expensive thanks to the rip-off merchants at 'Her Majesty's Revenue And Customs' but I've learned to live with it :)

Or should I go custom?

Check the ZT (Zero Tolerance) 0300 series... specifically the ZT0350 IMO. If that's too tactical for you, you could check out the HTM Gunhammer.

The Zero Tolerance 0562 is going to take care of you. Bonus points for the M390/Carbon Fiber version!

Nice suggestions here. You may also want to look into the ZT 0566. You can get one for just a little over a hundred bucks brand new.

Most Zero Tolerance knives will fit that list. The 0560/0562/566 series are great knives. Also the Spyderco Domino fits most of your requirements. The Benchmade 581 is assisted with M390 steel.

There are a ton of knives out there. Just have to find what works for you.

Personally wasn't a fan of the 581 assist... too much kick with a smooth handle made it feel like it was going to fly away every time I opened it. Beautiful knife, amazing steel, and I love the axis locks though.

Wow, so many replies in so little time. Thanks chaps (and chapesses!)

Here in knife-paranoid England (think NYC rules but worse) we don't have so many enthusiasts so it can sometimes take a week to get a reply on one of our native blade forums.

I had figured the answer would lie in some kind of ZT - I didn't realise you could get one in Elmax for so little cash. Not a huge fan of Spydies, but there are loads of dealers with them here so I won't rule anything out.

I am going to have a look at some of the above suggestions and report back!

Spiderco Manix S110V Hands down bestbuy
Lightweight, superb steel, wide leaf blade flat ground, tip up, and can be flipped open by pulling lock (just like axis locki), one hand opening closing.

ZT0566 is a fantastic knife, the spearpoint is a great blade shape too.

As stated, a ZT variant should fit the bill. However, tip-up carry with a flipper is generally not the best idea (unless you're carrying it off-handed or back pocket). Think about it... Just sayin'!

I think you might be thinking tip-down, which you would want to carry right rear pocket against the seam to prevent accidental opening.

I carry my flippers tip-up right front pocket against the seam all the time.

If you're looking for something in the 3" range the Kershaw Camber fits most of your requirements as well, I believe.

Ah, you're right - thanks, friend - I thought OP said tip down.
And yes, we agree - SA flippers are best in specific orientations.
