I used to XXX out the price of a knife after I had sold it. I had 2 different buyers ask me to do this over the course of time,so I just started doing it as S.O.P. I had a situation arise where someone sent me a check for an amount that was different than I remembered the asking price was, which was the agreed upon amount. This was a simple mistake and there was no harm or foul on either party. In fact, it was a smooth as silk transaction! However, it did make me realize that I had no point of reference to go back to if the amount had actually been in dispute, since the amount was XXXed out.
In short,I will leave the price in place after an item has sold unless specifically requested by the buyer to do otherwise. I still think it is the buyer and seller's right to XXX it out if they want to.
I think it just offers less confusion if the price remains. This is an issue that has come up many times here on GB+U, and I have always been on the side that says XXXing out is just fine. I still beleive that technically and morally it still is okay, I'm just not gonna do it that way anymore:D

Dave you're the first to have a valid reason! I respect your reasoning and may very well do the same!

Whenever I offer to buy online i always include reference to the price and terms of the sale offer for clarity with the seller.

One knife I purchased was actually listed on two sites at two prices, unknown to me, and the seller had lost track of the price on BF. (He had many customs for sale all over the place, as it turns out.)

I also save the "final" page as an archived *.mht file (small and quick) as part of an easily-built compendium of knives/sales etc. In an earlier post I mentioned the ease and utility of building a text file archive of knives and prices-in-evolution.

Similarly, one also expects phone orders to have price confirmation with your recitation of items; a surprising number of items are quoted at prices other than those in the catalog. Cabelas, for example, is very good about confirming a lower price in such cases.

With any transaction, communication and clarity are essential to "the meeting of the minds" element. Refreshingly on BF, good faith and fair dealing are pervasively the rule not the exception. :D

It may seem like a valid point, but if you had to contact them with your mailing information and how much the total with shipping would be, then you can always go back and check your sent emails. Ken

I include shipping in my price. If someone emails and says they'll take the knife and includes their addy, I have operated under the assumption that the price is as advertised. Otherwise, a counter offer would have been given.I will also try to give a price confirmation in every return correspondence in the future, but it the example this thread is based on, review of old emails would be pointless.
