I have double feelings about the subhilt

After reading what you guys have written, I am sure now: it's a bad idea to mutilate the knife!!! (I had a bad experience spoiling my OKC SP-2 when I sharpened its swedge.)
As many of you recommended, I'll keep it as built.

I'm not a ninja and I didn't buy this knife to cut somebody's throat, but I can imagine combat situations where the reverse grip is required, and there is only one way I can catch it with my pinkie inside the subhilt, which makes it slower and less convenient. But, again, I'm neither a butcher nor an assassin :D

Esthetically, it may even be pleasing to the eye: it is so different from the other knives I own. But quality and functionality are much more important than the looks, otherwise, I would have bought a Gil Hibben or something like that

I'm of the belief that there were Mall Ninjas throughout history..... Something to look Cool.
It's Just something to sell knives.

maybe that added alure to Ones's name, and stories would be told of that pirate/mercenary/rogue who fought like Hell, and went down their Own path in life, not being told what to do.... or what weapon to fashion or wear

*I see it as a liability.
Yes, once in hand, that extra leverage would be nice..... But grabbing it, and unsheathing it in a scuffle would be a B....

^^^Pretty much what he said.

My experience with "combat" kn ives is indirect, but relevant.

I bought a number of combat oriented kn ives for our son before he deployed to Iraq in 2004. He was in a front-line Marine combat unit that eventually saw action in Fallujah and Ramadi. I had give4n thought to a sub-hilt Big Bear clone. I had given thought of a Bowe knife of some sort. I thought to get something in Damascus . . .But what it boiled down to was that any knife he brought could possibly be a life saving tool and nothing else really mattered. So I got him rugged tools. Ultimately, he chose what to bring to war.

I bought and gave him a Randall #16-1 and a CRK Green Beret along with an Ek dagger and a Camillus Cuda Maxx (large folding stiletto dagger). When his unit shipped out, what he packed was the Randall and the CRK, basically utility knives. The "combat" knives stayed at home.
