If the Navy SEALS carried a fishing kit this would be it. :D

Ok, probably not but it's still pretty cool.

Here it is. Do you hear an Angelic choir singing too!?!? :D

Well I started out with a 3 D cell Maglite. Then shortened it down to the desired length. I installed a 3/8" peice of galvanized pipe in the handle end for the lanyard. It was secured in by a 3/4" thick JB Weld plug. I taped it off and coated the handle with primer and then two coats of a bed-liner spray that I bought at Lowe's. It seems pretty tough.

I drilled a tiny hole in the handle, located under the line, to anchor the line to it.

I then attached washers to the bottoms of two match cases so I could wrap a good amount of extra line around them. I left it off of one of them so you could get a better idea of how much each will hold.

The match cases contain hooks, swivels, and sinkers. I'm going to have to re-evaluate the sinker selection. They weigh about as much as the rest of the kit combined. I don't know the exact weight but without the sinkers it's pretty light. about the weight of a 2 D cell Maglite without batteries in it.

Total cost: About $45.00

Nice work!

Do you have any photos of the end with the lanyard? Not really sure I understand how you capped it off.

Cool kit - now you've got me wanting to bastardize one of my mag lights...

+1. Trying to figure out exactly what you did there. I have a non functioning old mag light in the drawer trembling as I type. :D

Thanks for all of the kind words everybody.

I was pretty excited about getting this one done after I pictured it in my head.

Here are a couple of pictures of the bottom end. First I cut off the Maglight to the length I wanted. Then I took a 3/8" drill-bit and drilled a hole through the end. I took a 5" long, 3/8" diameter peice of galvanized tubing and stuck it through the hole. It was pretty tight, I actually had to tap it with a hammer to get it to slide in. Then I cut it off on each side and grinded them down until they were flush with the sides of the flashlight tube.

It was capped off by taking a thin washer that was a little bigger in diameter than the Maglite and grinding it down until it would barely fit into the tube. Then I wedged it in the tube about 1/8" behind the 3/8" lanyard tube, closing off the end. I then filled that end, about 3/4" long, where the lanyard tube runs, with JB weld. Be sure to close the hole in the washer with something so the JB weld doesn't poor through it into the other section of the tube. I found a waher that had a small hole in the middle so it wouldn't take much to cover it. I learned after-the-fact that they make washers with no pre-drilled holes. That would have been nice.

As you can see in the photos below I should have put a hair more JB weld in. I then filed the JB weld down flush with the end and painted it with primer.
