I have just created the most Tactical fishing kit ever.

Thanks for explaining how the bottom end was closed off. I may have to make one with a AA mini-mag lite.

Very very cool kit, and a great reuse of an old Maglite (I have two someplace that are dead). I will have to try and give this a shot (thou without a doubt it wont be as slick).

Nice!

Very nice!!!
Don't want to kill my trusty old maglite to try this mod though.
Hmmmm Princess Auto has those $10 Aluminum maglite knockoffs....
Might need to pick one up to mess around with!

just gutted my mini mag and now all i need are some supplies to put in it
the plus side to mini mags is that they have a hole for a lanyard already and the are water sealed

Thanks for all of the kind words everybody.

I was pretty excited about getting this one done after I pictured it in my head.

Here are a couple of pictures of the bottom end. First I cut off the Maglight to the length I wanted. Then I took a 3/8" drill-bit and drilled a hole through the end. I took a 5" long, 3/8" diameter peice of galvanized tubing and stuck it through the hole. It was pretty tight, I actually had to tap it with a hammer to get it to slide in. Then I cut it off on each side and grinded them down until they were flush with the sides of the flashlight tube.

It was capped off by taking a thin washer that was a little bigger in diameter than the Maglite and grinding it down until it would barely fit into the tube. Then I wedged it in the tube about 1/8" behind the 3/8" lanyard tube, closing off the end. I then filled that end, about 3/4" long, where the lanyard tube runs, with JB weld. Be sure to close the hole in the washer with something so the JB weld doesn't poor through it into the other section of the tube. I found a waher that had a small hole in the middle so it wouldn't take much to cover it. I learned after-the-fact that they make washers with no pre-drilled holes. That would have been nice.

As you can see in the photos below I should have put a hair more JB weld in. I then filed the JB weld down flush with the end and painted it with primer.

can you take a pic of the INSIDE of the tube? (maybe use a little light to lite it up?)

That's a Great Idea, I've got some older non working Flashlite's In storage now you got my Wheel's Turning, Thank's for sharing your Idea,

at first I thought wow that looks like the nicest pipe bomb ever. Then I could see you handing it to your nephew saying, " your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough." (star wars riff)

Very cool

Very cool

At first I thought this was a “Pulp Fiction” reff,…which was a bit uncomfortable for a second.

Any chance that it floats? That would be nice, since kits that end up on the bottom of the lake are less useful than ones that don't.

:)
