Good post. I like to see people practice these things before they hit the woods with a theory. Fatwood is awesome and a great resource. If it is indigenous to your area it's definitely worth taking the time to learn to identify it in the woods. If it's not then to me it's no different than taking along a mag block and it's easier on a knife edge than mag blocks.
 
Here's a tip, dryer lint lights up just as easy as fluffed up jute does, and it's free! I just grab a small pill sized zip lock bag and stuff it full of dryer lint. You can coat it wax too to waterproof it

100% cotton dryer lint is what you want. After a load of whites. Synthetics don't make good tinder. mix with petrol jelly. Pitchwood is the dank.
