I have no idea what you're selling...

Maybe I'm wound too tight, but this is a pet peeve, and I wondered what "we" thought about FS posts like:
Spyderco Delica $40

Ok. Delicas have been made in several different colors of FRN, as well as with SS handles. They've been made in at least 3 different blade steels, with three different edge options, and 2 or 3 different clips all told, depending on handle material, and date of manufacture. Some have the Boye detent. Older ones don't.
There may be more options, but those immediately come to mind, and the mock FS post gives zero clue as to what is for sale.
And it looks just like a bunch of them on the FS/T forums:(

The Delica was picked at random-this is a general thing, not pointed at any individual. There are hundreds of other knives out there, production and custom, with thousands of variations between them.

I think if the seller cares about what he's doing, he'll want to give as much detail as possible, so the buyer doesn't have to jump through hoops just to find out what exactly is for sale. Beyond just showing some consideration for potential buyers, it seems like a seller would want to give details so he doesn't have to answer multiple emails from people trying to figure out what he's got, and facilitate a quicker sale that's easier, not just on the buyer, but on him/her as a seller. Not to mention, I don't know that I want to send money off to someone who doesn't care about the transaction. They might not care about sending me my knife anytime soon. The first impression may be the last one, too.

What people post, and how they do things, is their own business, but personally, I have sent my last email asking which size, color, blade steel, handle material, edge option, clip orientation, sheath, shipping method (or if the price includes shipping), etc, etc, ad nauseam...
I think if you want to sell something, you should act like you want to sell it, not play games. I wouldn't post CQC7 $65, anymore than I would run an ad for my GMC truck $5000, because I wouldn't expect any response.

What do YOU think?

I agree completely. It's even worse when they post a custom for sale, for a serious amount of money, and have no picture or description other than the maker's name.

It's a shame that a lot of this comes from new guys, who may not know better, but these are just the ones who need to impress us as some kind of knowlegeable and reliable.

I've picked up a few knives this year from people with very low post counts, because their ads made it clear they knew what they were selling, and wanted me to be happy with the purchase when I contacted them about it.

The more information, the better.

agree, the more info the better, cant gripe about pics though, mine still turn out TERRIBLE, really not even worth posting, but they do help w/info about condition/model/etc, i guess my camera just sucks, lol

but ya gotta put down the basics, blade style/steel/PE/CE/etc, ya just gotta do that imho

Anyone can leave out a detail, but I agree with you Owen. It appears that the person didn't even take the time to describe the knife. If I am in that big of a hurry, I wait and post it later. And it would be a lot easier than answering multiple "what edge, etc," emails, I would think. The more detail the better IMO. Even with factory knives, I have just gotten a pic off the 'net and posted it. Not the actual knife, but some people still want to see the knife. Even when you post the edge configuration, etc., a pic works for many people. I would agree, if you show that you took the time to post the knife accurately, the sale will happen in a snap! Not to toot my own horn, but I just sold a knife in just over 24 hours, due to a good description. The first inquiry I got, said, "I'll take it". The knife was described accurately, the buy knew exactly what he was getting. Sold.

IMO, if the seller does not take the time to describe the item fully and to post a pic, I pass on to something else. I´ve tried prying infomation from folks and recieved the minimun information in response. I my mind, why should I bust my ass just to help someone sell thier items to me.

Here is the entire post from another forum under a general "Knives for Sale" heading:

Collection for sale

$6000.00 for 182 all the rare ones will not divide.

Caught that one...that's just plain stupid.

Great example of how one or 2 little words can change everything.

Like, had he added: "Mayo TnT's" just after "182", i suspect he might have some email on its way... :)

It's amazing.

Like was said, folks will post a custom with no link or pic, as if this is something we ALL should be aware of. Sheesh. Please do a little research for your potential buyers!

And my favorite is "last call or this is going back into the safe!" REALITY check!!! Sorry, but your knife has not met Les Robertson's 'best investment award' today. Place it back in, but don't threaten me with this line.

My view: If a knife is struggling here, then take it to the auction market. Do up a better ad and get what it's worth--hopefully.

Don't even get me started on pics that 'don't do a knife justice'. :)

Nice rant. I'll stop now.... :)

I try to give all the info I can about a knife, sometimes to the point of sounding like an ad for the company, but most people care what scale material/ blade steel/edge config on a potential buy or a trade.
BTW I'll take that CQC-7 FOR 65.00:D , gotta have fun Ron

Seems like I'm alway's emailing to get more info on a knife that someone posted about or one that has been offered to me for trade.

Such as:
What steel is this knife?
Is it new or used?
Has it ever been sharpened?
Could you send me a photo?

Oh absobloodylutely Owen.

Can only operate to assist all.

The not to mention bit is spot on, also. Not that I'm mentioning it either, mind you.
