I recently purchased a lot of bayonets at a recent auction. This dagger was in with them. I have never seen one like it before. It appears to have the year 1075 on it. Has anyone seen one like it, because it sure looks nasty.

Looks like a fantasy piece to me. I could be wrong though.

I’m thinking you should have this looked at by an expert. I’ve seen authentic daggers with extreme features like this. The patina and construction look old and the details look like they received more attention than a simple prop might have.

Just a SWAG on my part but I'm thinking it could possibly be a Victorian era piece? There were some pretty fantasy-esq weapons made during that period. Or it might be a recent fantasy piece with a realistic looking patina???

A couple of questions:

Is that actual wire-wrap (as opposed to just an impression of wire wrap [is the wire magnetic?])

Is the blade made of steel? (Heavy/magnetic)

Do the edges come to “edges”? Does it seem like it used to be sharp or could easily be sharpened?

If yes to all of the above, I think it might be old.

I'm guessing it's a relatively recent novelty blade.

Year numerals appear to be in different fonts, with the "5" looking pretty contemporary. Uneven wear/distress pattern. Pommel edges are crisp & much less worn than other parts of the knife would indicate.

I've seen stuff like that at the Renaissance fair. Cool but I'm 99% sure it's a novelty and/or replica.

Thanks, I think that's some good advice, I believe it is old and not a prop. Now I need to find an expert. I handle does appear to be wrapped in wire.
